“I came to Efrat for therapy during a tumultuous time in my life. After a stint with a not-so-awesome therapist and feeling like a regressing lost teenager, I searched far and wide for someone who would push me to understand the roots of my struggles with patience, total honesty, and without judgement. That is Efrat. She is incredibly easy to open up to. Her special way of asking questions has opened a floodgate of emotions and memories that I am now aware have impacted my day-to-day life and actions. Her straightforward, no B.S. approach allows me to confront the things I've ignored for way too long in order to try to actively make positive, meaningful changes. She is able to subtly balance pushing me to my limits without pressuring me to reveal more than I'm ready to. Sounds contradictory and I don't know how she does it, but that's exactly what I've been looking for. Somehow her warm welcoming nature makes this otherwise torturous process much easier than I expected. After six months of therapy with Efrat, I've noticed a shift in my outlook on life, my relationships, and me. I'm practicing self-kindness, refocused on my goals, and hopeful. I 100% attribute that to my time with Efrat and I am grateful!”

Getting to know Efrat Gotlib

Efrat Gotlib, LCSW is a life coach and licensed therapist. She graduated from the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP) and specialized in advanced psychoanalytic techniques such as behavioral therapy (DBT therapy), cognitive therapy (CBT therapy), mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, spirituality, and life-coaching. She is also a member of the International Society of Mental Health Online (ISMHO) and a telehealth consultant for social and behavioral services. Also, she is famous for using a “no-nonsense” method in all her therapy sessions. Efrat provides a supportive and non-judgmental environment to make her patients feel at ease and work on their life’s issues in a customized manner. In other words, she based her therapy sessions on the patient’s individual needs in order to produce better results. And through her expertise and diverse approach, she is able to deal with her patients at a personal level so they can overcome mental health issues and life’s struggles in a productive way. In addition, Efrat believes that applying the conventional model of therapy can be challenging for busy individuals. So she also offers her services online through online appointment scheduling to accommodate her patient’s needs. How Can Therapy Help Me? A number of benefits are available from participating in therapy. Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks. Many people also find that counselors can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life. Therapists in Manhattan and Brooklyn can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Efrat’s style is direct, thoughtful, and collaborative. She works actively with clients to understand emotional patterns, reduce anxiety, and create meaningful change rather than offering quick reassurance or surface-level advice. She works best with adults who are open to ongoing, weekly therapy and are looking for depth-oriented work rather than short-term or one-time sessions. Sessions are available in person and online, depending on fit and availability.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After you book, our intake team will confirm next steps and ensure the fit is appropriate. Once therapy begins, Efrat or someone from her team will work collaboratively with clients to understand emotional patterns, clarify goals, and establish a steady, weekly rhythm of care. Sessions are ongoing and tailored to the individual, with a focus on depth, consistency, and meaningful change over time rather than short-term or one-off work.

Efrat is very easy to talk to and is the best therapist I've been to. She is open, honest, and welcoming, and an amazingly supprotive. I would recommend her to anyone.
After few visits I've decided to continue our sessions. Dr. Gotlib is very open, professional and communicative. I have confidence she can help me out to recognize and address my problems. I would highly recommend Dr. Gotlib to anyone seeking patient, caring and engaging therapist.
Best therapist I've ever seen. I'm learning more and more about myself with each session and am happier and more confident in my day to day and decisions as a result. She has a blunt, direct approach which has improved my life since day 1. Highly, highly recommended.
I have been a patient of Ms. Gotlib for three years, being treated for depression, anxiety and PTSD. I find her to be an insightful, compassionate and caring professional. I feel that I have made great progress in understanding the underlying causes of my conditions and how they affected my self esteem, or lack there of, leading to my alcoholism. Ms. Gotlib's support and insight have been instrumental in my recovery, which is now approaching three years of clean and sober living, allowing me to reestablish my relationships with my family and friends!
