Getting to know Elisha Geers

It is an honor to have this opportunity to work alongside you to reach your mental health goals. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LW61356222) and Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (CO61277343) in the state of Washington. I received my Master of Social Work (MSW) from Washington University in St. Louis in 2019. I have worked with teens and adults in various settings, including community mental health, non-profit agency, and group practice. Before pursuing a career in mental health, I worked in Japan for about seven years in education, translation, and HR. During that time, I witnessed chronic overwork, gender inequality, the invisible poor, discrimination against minority groups, social reclusiveness, and lack of accessibility to mental health services. What I observed and experienced personally ultimately gave me the push I needed to go back to school. As a result, my therapeutic approach is very much rooted in multiculturalism, social justice, and trauma-informed care. On my days off, I enjoy spending time with my spouse and dogs, reading, and exploring new restaurants.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have an eclectic therapeutic orientation, pulling from person-centered, cognitive, psychodynamic, attachment, feminist, queer theory, and existential theories. I draw from various evidence-based therapeutic modalities that best fit your goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our initial session will start by exploring your concerns and goals for therapy, reviewing your diagnosis and treatment options, and setting goals for you. We will work together at your pace, focusing on what's the most important to you. The value I place on education shows up in my therapeutic work, where I liberally provide psycho-education, resources, and home practice. Trust, ownership, and grace is the recipe for a successful episode of therapeutic care. I will do my best to make our work together meaningful and helpful to you.
