Getting to know Elizabeth Kienzle

**Life experiences are entwined with choices, and you can change the outcome.** We are living through extraordinary times! If you’re feeling stressed, stuck, or overwhelmed, it’s completely understandable. Your pain is real, and it’s telling you something. When you observe, respect, and listen to these signals, you will feel better. With the right help, you will begin to feel better soon. The question is “how?” Start by finding a therapist you feel comfortable with—someone who listens and understands you, supports your growth, honors your strengths, and has proven strategies that work. Good psychotherapy works! It can help you understand and soothe emotions and reduce feelings of being overwhelmed and overthinking things. You want to know you can start feeling better soon after getting started—and in my experience, you can. Taking the first step toward getting help almost guarantees you will start feeling better shortly. I hold a Master’s degree in School Counseling from Roosevelt University and a Bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University, which have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support your journey toward healing and growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use warmth, humor, and creativity to create a supportive space to learn new skills and rediscover your strengths. I listen to you and create an individualized plan to address your specific needs and goals. Distressing symptoms develop when you are not able to acknowledge all your parts and may present as worry, stress, sadness, and/or interpersonal conflict. You have a natural intelligence within you to heal. Let me be your guide! I’ve been a counselor since 2008 and have adapted and integrated all I have experienced and learned into my practice. In session, I use an evidence-based and powerfully transformative model called Internal Family Systems (IFS) as the primary tool to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, and overwhelm.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy is unique and tailored to fit your individual needs. Working as a team, each of us will come to the session and bring our own areas of expertise. I will bring my knowledge of counseling theory and intervention, and you will bring your expertise on you. Nobody understands what it is like to be you better than you do. Therapy can help solve problems, reduce distressing feelings, understand unhealthy patterns, and navigate life changes.

    • In addition to therapeutic work, I love to think outside the box to solve problems. While working within the education system, I presented data on a transition program I developed and managed at a conference for the Illinois Council for Exceptional Children. Moreover, the program was awarded as a program of “Excellence” by the Illinois State Board of Education in 2015 for creating systemic change within the community. In May 2021, I voluntarily obtained National Board Certification.
