“She truly goes above and beyond in her care. Her humanistic approach always centers on meeting me where I'm at, emotionally focused explorations, and will challenge me as well when needed. She has truly provided such a wonderful corrective experience and continues to teach me an incredible amount about therapy at large where it feels applicable to my life outside of session. “Working with Elizabeth Owens marked the first time I committed myself to engaging with therapy as an adult. Her excellent patient-therapist approach made it easy to connect with her. She was my therapist for 2.5 years, a time during which we worked deeply from an empathetic and thoughtful position on the different challenges I sought to work on through therapy. Every session with her was a learning opportunity for me to grow my mental and emotional well-being. Grateful for her solidarity, honesty, and dedication. ”

Getting to know Elizabeth Owens

I am an individual therapist for adults (18+) in New York State. I aim to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel cared for and deeply understood. In this space, we make time for self reflection that can lead to insight and a greater understanding of yourself, your relationships, and your life experiences. I will be with you and work to empower you at your weakest. I will also challenge you to grow so that your needs, desires, and goals can be met. I commonly work with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relational challenges, trauma and low self-esteem. I hold a Masters in Social Work from New York University. I am trained in a relational self psychological approach. This training helps me to create safety and a deep understanding in our relationship while simultaneously helping you begin to create healthier and more fulfilling relationships in your own life. As a former artist in New York City, I have a passion for working with artists or creatives who are seeking to feel confident in themselves, their relationships, and careers. I also specialize in working with sexual trauma. When working with those who've experienced trauma, I encourage clients to tell their stories in their own time. I help clients understand their triggers and teach tools for coping on a daily basis. I also use somatic work to regulate your nervous system. I look forward to hearing from you! What should a new client know about working with you?

I primarily work psychodynamically and am trained in a relational self psychological approach. I use a trauma-informed lens throughout my work and include somatic work as well as IFS or "parts work" when appropriate. I will tailor my treatment to your needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first step is to book a free 15-30 minute consultation. This appointment will include a video call where we will discuss what you are currently struggling with, what you'd like to get out of therapy, and how I may be of help to you. I will answer any questions you have about the process. If you decide that we are a good fit, the next step will be to begin weekly sessions that will provide support, exploration and healing to you. Extremely helpful and very validating, leave every session with a weight off my shoulders.

I’ve tried a lot of therapists over the years, and honestly, none of those experiences ever really stuck with me—until Elizabeth. Elizabeth truly listens. Not just in a surface-level, nod-along kind of way, but in a way that makes you feel genuinely heard and understood. She’s thoughtful in her responses, open-minded, and incredibly easy to talk to. I never feel judged or rushed, and that’s made it so much easier to open up. What really stands out is how she helps me navigate my own thoughts. Instead of telling me what to think or do, she gently guides me, asks the right questions, and helps me come to my own realizations. It’s empowering and has made a huge difference in how I approach challenges in my life. This has been, without a doubt, the best therapy experience I’ve ever had. For the first time, I actually look forward to my sessions. Elizabeth has created a space that feels safe, supportive, and genuinely helpful, and I’m so grateful to be working with her.
My time working with Elizabeth was truly transformative. She has an incredible ability to recognize patterns and intuitively guide you toward stronger emotional regulation and psychological fortitude. I often didn’t realize where she was leading me until I had undergone the transformation and got to a place where I can look back on the growth. I’m deeply grateful for the role she has played in my life, and I continue to carry what I’ve learned with me every day. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking meaningful and lasting change.
Elizabeth was a great listener and I felt like she really understood me and the difficult things I was going through. She was my first therapist and I'm really glad.
When meeting a new therapist no one really knows what to expect aside from the obvious sit and talk. We don't expect a therapist to necessarily understand someone on a personal level because everyone walks in their own shoes. What we hope to find is a therapist who will make it their mission to understand you. Their goal. And their job. Elizabeth Owens did so with me. I felt comfortable from the time I met her. I felt safe, I felt heard, but most importantly, seen. I felt seen because she was there with me. Guiding my personal journey with her questions and her presence. I can not recommend her more. I hope they who are on a journey to be seen and heard don't hesitate when meeting Elizabeth. All the best.
