Getting to know Eric Steininger

Whether you are really struggling or looking to grow in a certain area of life, counseling can be truly beneficial. With a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University, I provide a warm atmosphere where you will feel free and safe to discuss anything you would like. Together, we will work to improve areas of your life or address challenges you may be facing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Eric Steininger is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and has been in practice for over 7 years. Eric has experience with all different walks of life and ages. Eric has worked with employees of companies and their families across the country and currently works at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine as their full-time mental health therapist. Eric utilizes multiple therapy models but favors Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. Eric has been able to help many people struggling with anxiety and depression or wanting to grow in their professional and personal life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our initial session, we will work to get to know each other and discuss how I can best help you get to where you want to be. We also will come up with a plan to achieve your goals so we both know what to expect going forward. Each session after we will work on getting you to where you would like to be at a pace that is right for you. My goal is to make this a welcoming and positive experience for you as we work towards your goals. I also focus on working with you to come up with "homework" for outside of therapy so you can be growing in different areas of your life and see improvement as we go along.

After taking a break from school to focus on my mental health and healthier habits, I started working with Eric, and it was a true turning point. He took time to understand my life, my thought patterns, and what I felt I needed to improve. He suggested that building my confidence would be a major step forward and provided practical coping strategies. Week by week, I felt happier with who I am. Eric always reminded me that I was the one doing the work and to thank myself. All of this led to me believing in myself and to successfully completing my most challenge semester so far. Eric is incredibly understanding, kind, and engaged during sessions. His attention to detail shows he genuinely cares, and his support extends beyond just our appointments. Thanks to Eric, I’ve improved my daily life and learned to show myself more love. I believe his gift for helping others is truly special, and I’m incredibly grateful for the positive impact he’s had on me.
I would highly recommend Eric Steininger as a professional counselor. His demeanor is professional yet comfortable, he works with you to draw out the issues bothering you most and communicates well his intended plan of approach.

I am trying to quit smoking and haven't had good reactions to the medication that is supposed to help. I get very irritable when I have a craving and Eric has been incredibly helpful with providing exercises to identify the negative feelings and finding a different way to handle the craving instead of me just going out and having a smoke. Eric is easy to talk to and I felt comfortable opening up. I'm an actions and results oriented person and I appreciate Eric finding techniques for me to do on my journey to quitting smoking.
Eric is a very personal by offering to listen to is clients, offers suggestions of how to deal life events. We highly recommend him. Thanks Donna and Glenn LeGault

Eric is fantastic in his role! He has provided a wealth of advice and has greatly helped me improve my mental outlook. I highly recommend speaking with him.
I meet with Eric once a week for talk therapy. My sessions reset my mind frame and have helped me handle significant life changes over the past 6 months. Eric carries a compassionate and respectful demeanor, he listens thoroughly and offers kind but rational responses. Our sessions start with catching up, discussing various emotional reactions and naming where those stem from. We always end the session setting goals for the week to come. I highly recommend talk therapy with Eric to anyone that wants to support and care for their mental health. I will continue therapy with Eric as this weekly check in time has allowed me to achieve various accomplishments and successes in my life. Eric provides a safe place for inquisitive discussion. He offers reassurance as you work together to lay the path for a healthier future. Highly recommend.
Eric has helped me in recognizing how trauma can affect your life as an adult. Eric listens and always responds with compassion and empathy. What I like most about Eric is he helps you understand how your behaviors affect your life and teaches ways to help you manage life better. Don’t second look Eric, he can really do some good in anyone’s life. Therapy is for everyone we all need it in some ways. Best thing about therapy is it can change your life to be more enjoyable and gets you feeling much better. Whatever is going on in your life help is out there, so let Eric show you the path for the good.
I would highly recommend Eric! He is a fantastic counselor. I was never comfortable going to a male counselor before Eric. I was hesitant to reach out to him but once I did he got back to me within a half of a day. It was the quickest I’ve ever received a call back before. So his process before you start up your counseling sessions is he will call you before to get a general idea of what it is you would like to work on for yourself. From there you set up a time and start your healing work. I highly recommend Eric, he has already given me so many fantastic tool and help with life’s situations. So if your looking for a wonderful counselor and ready to do some healing I recommend you reach out to Eric Steininger.
Eric always creates an environment where I feel comfortable sharing anything I am going through and always fosters excellent conversations. Eric also has an incredible attention to detail and memory; he is able to link things I am currently sharing with events we have worked through in the past.
Dr. Steininger's action-oriented approach is agile in his ability to re-assess goals and current state each week. Ultimately this provides flexibility to handle the many detours and pit stops of life, while still driving in the direction I want to go.
The doctor was knowledgeable, helpful, and listened very intently to what I had to say. Felt very comfortable to talk and be open.
