Getting to know Helene Zupanc

OCD is no friend of mine. I’ve battled with it myself, first starting in childhood and following me into adulthood. The constant uncertainty, the endless chase for the fleeting “good feeling” that ends a compulsion, the rituals, the checking, the counting - it’s exhausting. The anxiety never seems to let up and you feel powerless, trapped between a rock and a hard place—I've been there. And on top of all that, OCD has this way of targeting your deepest vulnerabilities, striking where it hurts the most. It’s a miserable cycle. But as impossible as it can feel, there are proven ways to outsmart OCD and anxiety. I want to help you discover those methods so you can take back control of your life. OCD might whisper: “Something bad is going to happen—your loved ones will get hurt, or worse, you might be the one to hurt them. They’ll misunderstand you or stop loving you.” To try to control this, you start with rituals: stare at the edges of picture hanging on the wall, while you circle your neck, flex your wrists one at a time, blink, and hold your breath while counting four sets of four in rapid succession. But wait, that didn’t end on a good thought. OCD eggs you on, “Better do it again…” Two hours later... still trying to make it “feel right” and end on a good thought. For many of my clients, this is an all-too-typical Tuesday morning, with OCD and anxiety draining every ounce of energy before the day has even begun. “Ain’t nobody got time for that” is putting it mildly. You’ve got better things to do—study for a test, manage a relationship, pick up the kids, go to work—and don’t forget to actually enjoy your life! Our work together will empower you to reclaim your life and your time. Intrusive thoughts? Not today. What-if scenarios? Bring it on. Overwhelming cycles of thought? Not interested. Uncomfortable feelings? Lean into them. Panic attacks? You’ve got this! You’ll be living free from the weight of anxiety, feeling lighter and more at ease in every moment

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and EMDR to help you process past experiences, build practical skills, and make meaningful changes that carry over into your daily life. Sessions are collaborative—we’ll identify challenges, set achievable goals, and celebrate wins, big and small. My style blends warmth, humor, and practical guidance. Therapy with me isn’t just about talking—it’s about creating tools that help you thrive, at a pace that feels safe, manageable, and maybe even a little fun.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with listening and understanding your story—what brings you to therapy, your challenges, your strengths and what you hope to change. In our first sessions, we focus on any assessments needed and then building a collaborative plan tailored to your needs and goals. Together, we will identify both the struggles you’re facing and the strengths you already have to support your growth.
