What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe therapy should feel like a conversation with someone who actually calls you out when you are avoiding the work and celebrates you when you do it. My style is warm but direct. I am not going to nod along for months while you stay stuck. I am also not going to push you faster than you can handle. We will find the edge, and we will work there. We will not just talk about your childhood for six months and hope something shifts. We will identify the specific patterns keeping you stuck, whether that is catastrophic thinking, perfectionism that paralyzes, or the way stress shows up in your body and relationships. Then we will build skills to interrupt them. My clients often tell me they appreciate that I get it without them having to explain everything. You do not have to perform here or translate your experience into therapy language. Show up exactly as you are, even if that means skepticism, frustration, or not knowing where to start. Sessions are 53 minutes, typically weekly at first. I assign homework: practical exercises and behavioral experiments to apply between sessions. Therapy is not something that happens to you. It is something you practice. For clients working through past trauma, I integrate trauma-informed techniques to address root experiences that still drive present reactions. In our first session, we will assess what you are dealing with and set concrete goals. I will be honest about whether I think I am the right fit. If I am not, I will help you find someone who is. My goal is to help you reach a point where you do not need me anymore. This work is hard. But it is harder to stay where you are. If you are ready to actually do something different, I am too.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me typically moves through three phases, though the timeline varies by person. The first phase is assessment and building awareness. We spend the first few sessions getting specific about what is actually happening: your triggers, your patterns, your avoidance strategies. For anxiety, this means mapping worry cycles. For trauma, this means understanding how past experiences still show up in your present reactions. We also establish concrete goals: what would be different in your life if this work succeeded? The second phase is active intervention. This is where we use evidence-based techniques: behavioral experiments to test catastrophic predictions, skills to manage physical anxiety symptoms, communication strategies for relationships, or trauma processing when you are ready. There may be homework between sessions: tracking symptoms, practicing skills, or testing out new behaviors in real situations. This phase can be uncomfortable. Growth usually is. The third phase is consolidation. We space out sessions and focus on maintaining gains, troubleshooting setbacks, and building your confidence to handle challenges without my help. The goal is not just symptom reduction; it is building a kind of self-trust that does not depend on external validation or constant achievement. Throughout, I check in about what is working and what is not. This is collaborative. If something needs adjusting, we adjust it together.
