Getting to know Jaclyn Nematbakhsh

Specialties: depression and anxiety, life transitions, trauma, teenagers, maternal mental health, grief and loss, military and their family members. Please note: if you do not see your insurance listed, I do not take it. I can provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance. Jaclyn is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing therapeutic services to adolescents and individuals in San Diego County. She has been practicing as a therapist since 2012 after earning her Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University. Jaclyn practices from an eclectic approach while focusing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and often uses mindfulness in her practice to assist clients in making contact with the present moment. Jaclyn is also trained in EMDR and is almost certified. While completing her graduate degree, Jaclyn worked at a crisis house conducting individual therapy with clients who were often recently discharged from an inpatient mental health unit or were soon to be hospitalized. Here, she provided brief individual therapy to help patients identify coping skills that assist them in feeling safe. Jaclyn has experience working with children and teenagers through wraparound services within their homes. Wraparound believes in treating the family as a whole to address any unmet needs that the child or teenager is experiencing. She has worked with Transitional Age Youth (TAY), clients between the ages of 18 and 25, who are struggling with life transitions such as going to college or moving out of home for the first time. She also had the unique opportunity to work with teenagers facing substance use issues through multifamily groups. Jaclyn is passionate about working with men and women struggling with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMAD). She enjoys supporting the perinatal mental health population throughout the lifespan.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in walking alongside you in your journey to your best self. My favorite metaphor for therapy is one that involves mountains. We are each on our separate mountain at the same altitude. I am able to see you in your struggles and accomplishments in a different light than you can since I have a different vantage point. It does not mean I am an expert or better, it just means I can see you for who you authentically are. I am direct but compassionate and will be here for you as long as you need me to be.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I will spend a few sessions with you going over your intake and will hear the goals that you want to create. I typically assign "homework" to my clients to complete in between their sessions directly related to what we discussed in session. Sessions with me are 50 minutes and I usually like to see my clients at the same time slot weekly so that you can be where you want to be.
