Getting to know Jemal Doute

Welcome to Douté Counseling Services. My name is Jemal Douté, owner and operator of Douté Counseling Services. I've been in this field since 2006 and have been a lifetime learner in the mental health field. I've served as President of the New York City Chapter of Family Therapists. I hold a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Amridge University and am trained as a certified EMDR II Trauma therapist, a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, a Prepare-Enrich Premarital Counseling Trainer, a Certified Hypnotherapist, an AAMFT Approved Supervisor of therapists, and a US DOT Substance Abuse Professional, among other qualifications in the profession. I am currently completing a PhD in Clinical Sexology. As a member of the American Association of Sex Educators and Counselors (AASECT), I've trained extensively in working with persons with alternative sexualities and relationship constellations-in particular, polyamory. When myself or my staff work with you and/or your family, you will be receiving all of my life experiences as well as theirs in your healing. We've trained, studied, and worked hard at our professional growth so that we can bring you the best of what we have to offer.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My Therapy style is intensive. My focus is on Attachment and Family systems. Working with me is Clinical. We will practice empirically studied techniques to improve your relationship.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I’m a great listener. I will listen with empathy and concern to what bought to you to this point. My goal is to work with my clients Collaboratively. I’ll tell you directly what I see, you can tell me directly how you feel about what I’ve observed and we’ll meet your goals together.
