Getting to know Jenna Tso

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a therapist, I utilize an eclectic approach and tailor treatment to fit the needs of each individual I work with. I commonly use interventions from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy (SFT), acceptance-based commitment therapy (ACT), internal family systems (IFS), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), and attachment based therapy to address each client’s needs. Overall, my goal is to provide a safe and nurturing space where you can explore your emotions, learn coping strategies, and tap into your inner resilience. I have training in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) to assist individuals struggling with emotion regulation and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which is a gold-standard approach to treating anxiety and depression. I enjoy tailoring treatment to each client and incorporating their interests into sessions, whether that’s music, drawing, dance, or other forms of expression. Sitting and talking for every session may not work for some clients. I recognize that and am open to determining what works best for each person. Through creativity, mindfulness, and psychoeducation, I embark with each client on a journey to assist them with challenging limiting beliefs and seeing their true superpowers. I work through an intersectional lens, considering each client’s overlapping facets of identity better to understand their role in their experience and struggles. I identify as a culturally responsive, LGBTQ+ affirming, and disability-affirming therapist who is passionate about advocating for their clients and providing a warm, accepting space for them to show up as their authentic selves. In therapy, I acknowledge and explore the different aspects of my client’s identities that impact the way they navigate the world and may exacerbate their current mental health symptoms, including disability, race, gender, and more.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For all prospective clients, I offer a free 15-minute consultation via phone to give us a chance to get to know each other a little bit and see how I can best assist. If you feel like I am a good fit, from there, we schedule the first therapy session either in-person or via video. During the first session, I will get to know you more and together, we will create goals to work towards in therapy. In therapy sessions, I use a combination of therapeutic techniques and approaches to best address your needs and goals. Some sessions may look like us sitting and talking while others may look like us practicing mindfulness activities or even creating art. I will draw upon your own unique interests and strengths to make sessions engaging and useful.
