Jessica Ellis, LPC

Psychotherapist
30 N Michigan Ave, Ste 925, Chicago, IL
I believe everyone can benefit from therapy, and I enjoy getting to know my patients as individuals with complex and unique backgrounds. I am a psychotherapist with a master’s degree in counseling from The Family Institute at Northwestern University, with a background in social services and teaching. I have experience with a range of individuals, particularly those impacted by trauma, neurodivergence, and gender and/or women’s issues. I approach my work and life with humor, compassion, and empathy, and seek to partner with patients to understand their worlds from a nonjudgmental stance. I find that most distress makes sense in context and work with a wide range of individuals seeking to better understand themselves. This includes those struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, grief, and trauma. I utilize a psychodynamic approach to explore what might underlie thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relational patterns to foster insight and growth. I also draw from somatic, family systems, and mindfulness approaches to best support each patient’s unique needs.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take an open, curious and compassionate stance in my work with patients. I employ playfulness and authenticity to establish safety and a strong working relationship so that we can navigate challenging times, while also exploring your strengths.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions will be focused on getting to know you and what brings you to therapy so that we can tailor our goals and process to your needs. Sessions are generally an open space for patients to bring whatever is present at the moment and at times may be more directive depending on our goals or process. My primary focus is on patients feeling safe and supported so that change feels more accessible.
