Psychotherapist

Some concerns can be addressed quickly; others benefit from time, reflection, and a steady therapeutic relationship. For over a decade, I’ve supported people reflecting on themselves and their relationships at a pace that allows deeper understanding to develop. As self-knowledge grows, many feel more grounded, connected, and better able to identify and advocate for their needs. My approach is reflective and relational, with an emphasis on understanding patterns, emotions, and relationships. Many people seek therapy while they are functioning well on the surface; but they sense that something beneath deserves attention. By slowing down and exploring these feelings, patients can gain insight into themselves and the ways their experiences and relationships shape their lives. I specialize in working with individuals who struggle accessing emotions and could benefit from some organization and clarity. I also work with those who are ostracized for various reasons, including social anxieties, appearance, identity, rejection of social norms, rejection from peers or family, and generally those struggling to find their authentic voice. Additionally, I have significant experience working with LGBTQIA+ populations. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, my Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, and my PhD in Clinical Social Work from the Institute for Clinical Social Work. I work with patients who are ready to explore their emotions and make meaningful changes in their lives. Starting therapy is a way to begin that process and make yourself a priority.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When entering a therapeutic journey with me, you can expect to have a non-judgmental space to talk about whatever is on your mind. There is no script when it comes to this type of therapy, you can bring yourself authentically. Sometimes we don't have a place to say the deepest, scariest things on our minds, but I want to create a space where that becomes both possible and real. In the pursuit of self-awareness, we must explore the various aspects of our identity. Accepting ourselves marks an important milestone in a therapeutic journey, paving the way for empowered decision-making in our best interests I view individuals as a whole beings. You are not just the one traumatic event that happened to you; you are a whole person with past experiences and relationships that shape who you are, and when distressing events occur, they affect your whole being. My primary approach is psychodynamic, but I tailor the experience to your unique needs. By knowing more about you, we can collaboratively explore why things affect you the way they do, and work with that understanding rather than dismiss your reactions or emotions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I practice talk therapy where we meet to explore the issues you want to address in your life. This doesn't have to feel scripted, it can be more of a mindful and open experience, tailored to your preference. Some individuals benefit from coming to sessions and freely saying what's on their mind in the moment. Other times, there are specific topics to unwrap, and this space allows for any type of approach. I tend to ask questions to gain a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of my patients because that helps not only with diagnoses, but treatment of symptoms. My goal is to offer a comfortable environment, whether in-person or virtually, where we can discuss the various aspects of your life. Through thoughtful analysis, we can begin to develop deeper understandings of the psyche. With that understanding, people often find themselves more empowered to advocate for themselves in various situations. Identifying our needs and feeling validated can be challenging, but through therapy this becomes more achievable.
