I believe good counseling starts with understanding the person in front of me rather than assuming I already have the answers. Your experiences, challenges, relationships, and ways of making sense of the world are uniquely yours. My role is to listen carefully, understand what you are experiencing, and bring compassion, curiosity, and clinical knowledge into the work when it is useful. I work particularly well with adults who struggle with attention and focus, worry and overthinking, self-criticism, difficulty expressing themselves, feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns, or the lasting effects of difficult past experiences. I also work with parents looking for support in understanding themselves, their relationships, or the challenges they are navigating. My goal is to help you develop greater self-awareness and insight while also translating that understanding into practical change. That might mean learning ways to manage overwhelming moments, recognizing patterns in your thoughts and behavior, developing new coping strategies, or finding healthier and more flexible ways to respond to what life brings. I provide telehealth counseling to clients throughout Oregon. Professional Counselor Associate Under the supervision of Kristen Hawkinson, LPC, Supervisor

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is collaborative, compassionate, and down-to-earth. Therapy with me is not intended to feel like sitting with someone who is analyzing you or telling you how to live your life. I want us to be able to talk openly about what is happening, get curious about it together, and figure out what is actually useful for you. I tend to balance reflection with practical work. Sometimes that means slowing down and understanding why a particular experience, thought, or reaction keeps showing up. Other times, it means identifying something concrete you can try differently. I also believe therapy can be serious without feeling serious every minute. Humor and silliness have a place when they come naturally, and I want you to feel that you can show up as yourself rather than needing to perform a certain version of yourself in therapy. Ultimately, I hope our work helps you understand yourself more clearly, feel better equipped to handle difficult moments, and make changes that are consistent with the person you want to be.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first sessions are usually focused on getting a clear picture of what has been happening in your life, what brought you to counseling, and what you would like to be different. I will ask questions about your current concerns, relevant history, relationships, strengths, coping strategies, and other parts of your life that may help us understand the bigger picture. From there, we will develop goals together rather than following a one-size-fits-all treatment plan. A typical session may include checking in on what has happened since we last met, exploring a current challenge or recurring pattern, and identifying thoughts, emotions, behaviors, or experiences that may be contributing to it. Depending on what you need, we may work on increasing self-awareness, challenging unhelpful ways of thinking, developing coping skills for overwhelming moments, practicing new ways of responding, or exploring how past experiences influence the present. I generally view counseling as something we do together. I may offer observations, questions, strategies, or a different perspective, but I also want your feedback about what is and is not working so that our work remains relevant to you.
