Getting to know Josephine Martinez

Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to consider working with me. Finding a counselor who is a good fit for you is an essential component of feeling positive about your counseling experience. It takes courage to face tough things in life, to ask for help, and to take action in order to achieve new goals. I am passionate about supporting people and providing a confidential space to talk. My counseling style is collaborative, direct, and compassionate so that you can be authentic, feel heard, overcome obstacles, and discover your strengths. I find that the openness and trust built between counselor and client is the key to feeling like you can fully be yourself and share openly, without fear of judgment or negative impact on your personal relationships. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Michigan State University and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, which have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you effectively.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide HIPAA protected tele-health services via Zoom online. I am licensed in the states of IL,WI and IN. I accept insurance payment and direct credit/debit card payment online, which is handled by Headway. I use Headway to manage my billing and admin work so that I can place all of my focus on our work together. I am committed to providing an environment that’s safe and welcoming for everyone including the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as for people of every race, age, body type, and faith tradition. There are no two people exactly alike. I believe everyone is unique, valuable, and amazing, just by being who you are! Because of that, there is no "one size fits all" type of therapy. I apply an integrative therapy approach to help clients work through and conquer challenges. I apply an integrative therapy approach, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution Focused Therapy techniques, sprinkled with creativity and humor. I am also well versed in a variety of other therapeutic styles and am flexible to work together to meet your unique needs, qualities and personality. Your preferred pace, comfort level, and feedback will be respected. That is the best part about therapy. It is all about you! It's a place where you can talk about yourself, your thoughts, your feelings, your fears, your accomplishments, and whatever comes to mind. You can trust that you will be listened to with respect and sensitivity.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois with over 25 years of experience in the field of social work and counseling. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan and a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from Michigan State University. I have extensive experience working with clients, experiencing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, women's issues, relationship issues, challenging life transitions, and professional development. I provide online telehealth counseling services so that you can remain in the comfort of your own home or fit in sessions on the go. Are you ready to take the next step towards meaningful change in your life? Are you ready to experience the support, hope, and positive growth that you can gain from counseling? I would love to connect and create a plan together to reach your goals.

I was able to open up and share my feelings with Josi. She is encouraging and an effective listener. I truly valued our time together. Her guidance and insight helped me tremendously during a challenging time. I definitely recommend her services!
Josi came highly recommended to me and I am so glad she did! When I started with her, I was in the height of a workplace conflict and stress that comes from managing a large department. My anxiety was impacting all parts of my life and I couldn't find a resolution on my own. With her support, I was able to learn how set personal and workplace boundaries so I could continue with my career ambitions without sacrificing my personal beliefs. I have more strategies now so instead of dodging issues, I can make a more conscious decision of how and when to respond in an authentic manner.
Josi was incredible. I had some deep wounds that I hadn't dealt with from childhood and other wounds that I caused myself and others in adulthood. Josi was kind, caring, and professional, and simply felt like she knew me before I did. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone. She pushed when I needed to be pushed and brought me back when I was too hard on myself.
Josi got me through a challenging period in life and was a kind consistent warm therapist. She is perfect for anyone looking to process difficult emotions and feel heard and valued.
Josi helped our marriage tremendously. She does a great job of making you see both perspectives. She provides tools we are able to put in practice on our own. Highly recommend for any therapy needs!
It was the first time in a long time that every session I was at I felt heard and had Takeaways to work on right away. Josie is the most talented person I have ever met. You will know that after 10 minutes of talking to her.
