Karen Valteau-Williams, LCSW

Hello, my name is Karen Valteau-Williams. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with depression, stress and anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, & motivation, self esteem, and confidence. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. Mental wellness is something that is not taught in school, and it's not something that we generally learn at the dinner table. In fact, it has only been in recent years that the importance of mental health and wellness has become something that people feel open and comfortable discussing. While a very important key to mental wellness is self-care and the utilization of coping and grounding skills, cognitive processing is also a critical element of improving our moods and ability to enjoy life to the best of our abilities. We cannot really control every aspect that happens in our lives, and this is a very scary fact to many people. However, we can work on creating a healthy and positive mental outlook through the use of positive self-talk, and challenging self-defeating beliefs and thoughts. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Some of the challenges my clients have faced in the past include depression, anxiety, familial conflict, parenting difficulties, grief and loss, abuse and trauma. I have also worked with clients who seek to simply gain knowledge of coping skills and ways to experience life to the best of their abilities.
