Getting to know Kathleen Alice-Colette Cannataro

I earned my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Manhattan University and work with individuals and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, attachment issues, LGBTQIA+ experiences, and sexuality exploration. My approach is person-centered, collaborative, and tailored to each client's unique needs. I incorporate evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to help clients build practical skills and create meaningful change. I believe each person already has the capacity for growth and healing. Together, we'll identify the strengths and tools that work best for you, helping you better understand yourself, navigate life's challenges with greater confidence, and move toward your goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can be intimidating, especially if it's your first time, so I aim to create a space where you can simply be yourself. You don't need to have everything figured out before you walk in the door. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just looking to understand yourself on a deeper level, we'll work together to make sense of what's coming up for you. I see therapy as a collaborative process. I bring clinical knowledge and evidence-based tools, and you bring your unique experiences, strengths, and goals. Together, we'll find an approach that fits you rather than trying to force you into a one-size-fits-all model. I believe lasting change comes from understanding yourself with compassion, not criticism. My role is to help you recognize the strengths you already possess, build new skills when needed, and feel more confident navigating life's challenges. I want our sessions to be a place where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to create meaningful, sustainable change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe therapy should be tailored to the individual, not the other way around. In our first few sessions, we'll focus on getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and identifying your goals. From there, we'll create a plan that feels right for you. As we work together, I draw from evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, and EMDR while adapting each session to your unique needs. Whether we're building coping skills, processing past experiences, or exploring patterns that no longer serve you, my goal is to help you gain insight, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change.
