Psychotherapist
TX
Hi there – I’m Katie, a licensed professional counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist with over 10 years experience in the mental health field. I specialize in helping adults of all ages navigate transitional periods, whether that’s a transition that’s been anxiously anticipated (like that first “grown up” job or parenthood) or a transition that feels unexpected and overwhelming, like the end of a relationship, an illness, or a loss. Together, we’ll work to make meaning from the struggle so that you can move forward… even if the thought of that seems beyond reach right now. One of the toughest experiences during those transitional periods is grief. We grieve not only what we have lost but also the sense of safety and predictability we had in the before. In recent years, I have worked with clients processing losses of parents, children, pets, partners, mobility, and independence. What has held true in each of those experiences is that there is never a perfect thing anyone can say. That has held true during my own grieving, too. So while I won’t have magic words to heal the hurt, I will bring empathy and support to help you move through one of the hardest times a human can experience. My other areas of focus are anxiety and depression, especially in older adults or the perinatal period. I use cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and person-centered therapies. I meet each client where they are and recognize that the client is the expert in their own life. Taking the first step to start therapy is often the hardest, and I am here to listen without judgment. My goal is to partner with you to increase self-understanding, challenge unhelpful thoughts, and improve self-efficacy. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I look forward to working with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Here’s a warm, welcoming, professional response that reflects your philosophy as the founder of Grief Recovery Center without sounding overly clinical or impersonal. At Grief Recovery Center, we believe you don't have to navigate life's challenges or experiences of loss alone. Whether you're grieving the death of a loved one, navigating a divorce, experiencing a major life transition, or struggling with something that has changed your sense of self, your experience matters. Our approach is compassionate, supportive, and individualized. We recognize that no two people experience grief or emotional challenges in exactly the same way. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, and we don't believe in placing expectations on how quickly someone should heal or what their journey should look like. When working with us, you can expect a safe, judgment-free space where you can show up as you are. You don't need to have the right words, know exactly what you need, or have everything figured out before starting therapy. Our goal is to help you feel heard and understood while providing practical tools, guidance, and support to help you process your experiences and move forward in a meaningful way. We also believe that seeking support isn't a sign of weakness or an indication that something is wrong with you. Sometimes life happens, and we find ourselves navigating experiences we simply weren't prepared for. You deserve support, and you don't have to wait until you're at a breaking point to ask for it. Most importantly, our goal isn't to change who you are or make you forget what you've experienced. It's to help you better understand yourself, work through what may be weighing on you, and create space for healing, growth, and a fulfilling life moving forward.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe therapy should be a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported without judgment. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you're unsure where to begin or how to put what you're experiencing into words. You don't need to have everything figured out before we start. I have over 10 years of experience in the mental health field and work with adults navigating a variety of life experiences and transitions. This includes grief and loss, relationship changes, parenthood, pregnancy and postpartum challenges, anxiety, depression, illness, and other unexpected changes that can leave you feeling overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself. My approach is collaborative and individualized. I draw from cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and person-centered therapies to help you better understand your experiences, recognize unhelpful thought patterns, develop practical coping strategies, and build confidence in your ability to navigate life's challenges. I also have specialized training in perinatal mental health, CBT for insomnia, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. I recognize that no two people experience life's challenges in the same way. You are the expert in your own life, and my role is to partner with you, meet you where you are, and help you identify what support looks like for you. When working together, you can expect compassion, encouragement, and a space where you don't have to pretend you're okay. My goal is to help you make meaning from difficult experiences, strengthen your understanding of yourself, and move toward a life that feels more manageable and fulfilling. You don't have to navigate the difficult seasons of life alone.
