Getting to know Kelley Brower

**I ACCEPT AETNA & Cigna * And have a sliding scale for self pay. My entire life, I have been endlessly fascinated by three things: Science, Psychology, and Comedy. My first career was as a comedian, actor, writer, and Film/TV- First AD, Director& Producer for a whopping 25 years! I did Standup, Improv, Sketch Comedy, lots of TV Commercials, Sitcoms, and directed/produced countless projects. But, I was also a huge science nerd, and was always backstage and in the "green rooms," reading, studying, and endlessly fascinated with Psychology and behavioral science. Fast Forward to today- My 2nd Career - I have been a Psychotherapist, Couples Counselor for over 10 years and have found that with lots of behavioral science training, theories, strategies and tools, mixed in with a little humor and a nonjudgemental scientific approach to be a healing Supepower-Combo-Platter. When my clients can learn how to look at their struggles, relationship issues and behavioral responses with a lighter lens, they often begin to feel more grounded, more in control of their thoughts, feelings and behavior and often reach their goals much faster! And, naturally, life becomes much more pleasant, and collectively, we humans also become kinder, gentler, more focused, happy and creative.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a Gottman Level 3 Couples and Family Counselor, I believe that when creativity and humor are blended with compassion, hard science, evidenced-based tools and strategies sprinkled in with a dash of humor and creativity, the psychological journey and be a powerful game-changer. In addition working with couples, and families, when COVID reared its ghastly snout in 2020, I dove nose deep into infectious disease training, compassion focused crisis therapy and earned a certification in First Responder Crisis Counseling. Ever since - I have been working with responders of all types to find ways to manage their feelings and find humor, meaning and peacefulness in their very difficult work. I offer a sliding scale for couples and families - so don't let money be an obstacle!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

**I ACCEPT AETNA INSURANCE, & I HAVE A SLIDING SCALE - Our sessions will be a warm, lite space to explore thoughts, feelings, and behavioral dynamics. My clients can also expect lots of curiosity, and humor. If my clients are game, I also like to give some homework assignments so clients can test drive new ways of doing things, and experiment with new ways of relating to others...the assignments are always optional and are often super interesting and hopefully fun!

Kelley is fantastic. My husband and I saw her for couples counseling and she was exactly the resource we needed. She had great perspective and gently guided both of us to realizations about our behavior and perspective. She used data-driven approaches to facilitate better connection. My husband and I are now in a great place and I wholly think she's the reason why.
Kelley has been a profound voice in my life for the past 5 years. Her ability to listen deeply, witness compassionately, and guide gently is what we all deserved from our original caretakers, (and them from theirs) but it’s an impossible task in this modern world. Kelley leads with science, curiosity, & creativity, and without ever explaining, she shows you how to ease into yourself without our past in the way. It’s a delicate dance that seems to come naturally to her. Along with solo sessions, I love her group therapy and Improv therapy. Eternally grateful for her presence in my life and the commitment I made to the work we’ve done together.
My husband and I have been working with Kelley over the past few months, and I would highly recommend her as a therapist! She is kind, intuitive, compassionate, a great listener, and she always manages to find a way to incorporate humor and lightness into some very heavy conversations. She is great at helping us learn to understand one another's points of view, reconnect, and repair in or after difficult moments; I feel like we've already learned a lot from our sessions with her, and our relationship has gotten much stronger and more resilient. She also has taught us a lot about approaching conflict situations; I find myself thinking back to the "four horsemen" video regularly and reminding myself to use the better alternatives! Overall, I would highly recommend Kelley for making an originally-daunting process into a really helpful and positive one.
Kelley is one of a kind. She is a diamond in the rough and will be there for you when you need her. I highly recommend taking advantage of her services before her calendar gets too full!
