Kelly Sena, LCAT

Psychotherapist
NY
I’ve supported children, adolescents, and adults across diverse settings—including psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation centers, day programs, school environments, and outpatient mental health clinics. I bring a flexible, client-centered approach to therapy, integrating traditional talk therapy with the creative arts and evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness. My work is rooted in the belief that creativity is a powerful, transformative tool. It can unlock emotional expression, foster self-discovery, and deepen awareness of our internal world. I specialize in helping clients gently face and accept difficult emotions and thoughts—those prickly, uncomfortable parts of ourselves that often feel impossible to hold. Just like we can hold a cactus carefully, we can learn to hold our discomfort with compassion and without judgment. Whether you're working through trauma, building self-esteem, or navigating a major life change, I’m here to walk alongside you—supporting your journey toward healing, growth, and renewed self-connection.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Growing up on Long Island, I often turned to the beach, nature, and drawing as sources of comfort during difficult times. These experiences sparked a deep appreciation for the healing power of creativity, leading me to initially pursue a career in art education. I was passionate about working with children and hoped to serve as a positive role model, helping them discover the same sense of peace and self-expression that art provided me. I didn’t know what art therapy was at this time. I was introduced to the field of art therapy and during my first internship at a mental health day program, is where I realized I was in the right place. There, I met a client who shared how art therapy had not only supported her mental health but also empowered her to build a meaningful career in the arts. Her story was a turning point—my “aha” moment. I realized then that I wanted to be part of someone’s healing journey in that same way. That moment inspired me to shift my path and pursue a career in creative arts therapy, combining my love for art with my commitment to supporting others through their emotional and psychological challenges.
