Psychotherapist
WI
In my practice, I focus on those who have been feeling "stuck." You may have seen to see therapists before, but the core problem doesn't seem to go away. Focusing on the patterns of your thoughts and emotions, we can identify some of the undercurrents of your life to create real and lasting change. My approach I use a variety of approaches in patient care, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, radically open dialectical behavior therapy, and schema therapy. The overall approach is designed to understand each unique individual in their own context rather than trying to fit them into a preconceived diagnostic label or box. My focus Clients with struggle with issues of emotional overcontrol. When feeling "emotionally uncomfortable," some of us might lash out, and others of us might shut down. The type that shuts down might get very quiet, or say everything is fine when it is not fine, and be very uncomfortable with the idea that others might know what is going on in their heads. This type manages emotions by keeping them inside and "putting on a mask" that tells the world to keep away or that everything is fine. This is the population I work with. Our goals are to learn to "open up" again, but doing it slowly and on our terms. By doing this, we can learn to connect with others and have more fulfilling relationships. My communication style My communication style is empathetic, yet direct. I recognize that we often will not change when we are comfortable. My goal as a therapist is to establish solid relationships with clients and challenge them enough to be a little uncomfortable, yet not overwhelmed. That is called "finding our edge," and that is when we begin to grow. My journey to mental healthcare My journey to becoming a psychotherapist involved my efforts toward mental health. I also struggled with emotional overcontrol and anxiety.
