What should a new client know about working with you?

I am particularly interested in working with people in the Filipino or the broader AAPI community who are navigating life transitions as they are uniquely impacted by intergenerational trauma, systemic racism, and/or acculturation. I hope to examine any and challenge concerns such as: destigmatization of mental health, self-esteem, ideas of a “model minority,” and managing complex roles in a family system. I hope my clients and I can co-create goals such as setting and sustaining boundaries, and a developing an improved sense of a strong self-worth. My specialty is to engage in strengths-based narrative therapeutic techniques so that I may learn what is most meaningful to clients. I employ CBT and DBT to challenge thoughts that are no longer serving them. I am also skilled in crisis management and grief counseling, drawing from extensive experience working in a hospital with people navigating chronic illness and end of life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

With experience in medical settings supporting individuals and families facing chronic illness, I use expertise in palliative care and grief counseling. Through evidence-based modalities like CBT, DBT, and meaning-centered therapy, we’ll explore thought patterns and behaviors. Together, we'll set realistic goals to deepen trust in yourself.

I booked the appointment, and received email confirmation from ZocDoc. Then I waited to receive the link for Zoom. I decided to call the office myself, and when I called I was told that my appointment was never confirmed. 1) they had time to tell me that in advance, instead they didn’t. 2) they had time to ask me to reschedule, instead they didn’t. I guess they just waited and assumed that if I could not log in that it would be fine I’d just move on. I asked them to cancel then the appointment in their end because I couldn’t since the appointment was about to start, she then made up reasons as to why she couldn’t cancel it. Clearly the appointment was fine since ZocDoc counted it as an appointment and I had the email confirmation. The issue was the in their end (Dr’s office). I hope she hides a more competent office manger, because this was not right. Especially when you’re dealing with therapy.
