Getting to know Dr. Lars Olson

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and a licensed school psychologist. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology and my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Minnesota State University, Mankato. My approach to therapy is adaptable and largely dependent on the client’s needs. I strongly believe in the mind-body connection and enjoy discovering unique mindfulness techniques best suited to each individual client. My journey began as a substitute teacher, where I developed an affinity for special education. This passion led me to pursue a school psychology program, which ultimately brought me to where I am today. I love being a therapist and find great joy in watching clients evolve into the best versions of themselves. I feel honored to work with people and to help them heal from trauma and other wounds.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In my practice, I use a variety of approaches based on applied behavior analysis and cognitive behavior therapy. I frequently employ techniques from REBT, somatic psychology, and non-western modalities. I am passionate about DBT and ACT and I strive to help clients develop the skills they are seeking to help them live presently and fully. In a therapist-client relationship, it is important to me that we walk the road towards better mental health, together. I have experience treating clients of all ages. I have experience treating mood disorders, PTSD, gender transition, families, sleep issues, Autism, anger issues, men's issues, career counseling, life transitions, addiction, and grief. I am certified in Psychedelic Assisted therapy. I am available for integration sessions as well as Ketamine assisted psychotherapy. I have an open, casual style to help clients feel at ease and open to letting me hold space for them. I am intuitive about matching my energy to the client's. We could be laughing one minute and crying the next. Sometimes you want to vent, sometimes you want to problem solve, and I am here to support you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When it comes to goals, I like to come alongside the client and help them create a plan that will get them where they want to be. I help the client turn big goals into smaller manageable ones that will empower and enable them to be their best selves. My goal in the first session is to build a trusting relationship with the person I am serving. I want to learn about them and through the intake process, help them create their roadmap of where they are, where they want to be, and how we are going to get there.
