Getting to know Laryssa Creswell
Dr. Laryssa M. Creswell believes that women and teen girls thrive on relationships, whether positive or challenging. She creates a warm environment for them to explore themselves and their relationships, helping them become their best selves. Dr. Creswell also believes that developing strengths collaboratively fosters a safe space to process experiences thoughtfully and nurturingly, at each person's own pace.
Dr. Creswell earned her bachelor's degree from Jackson State University, her master's degree in music therapy from Loyola University New Orleans, and a Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University/Washington DC. She is a licensed clinical professional counselor in Maryland, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia, a Board-Certified Music Therapist, and a Licensed Professional Music Therapist in Maryland.
As a Maryland Board Approved Supervisor with the Approved Clinical Supervisor credential, Dr. Creswell provides supervision for interns, pre-licensed, and licensed clinicians. She also serves as an adjunct professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology at the Washington DC Campus. Dr. Creswell has extensive knowledge in trauma, substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, and both individual and group therapy.
Outside of work, Dr. Creswell adores quiet days with her husband and two children. She loves sitting with her headphones on, her favorite music blasting, while reading a good book.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I am a patient person and will work with you at your pace. I allow for you to lead the session and will offer you new and different perspectives to look at your situation and experience.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
The first session is you sharing about you as a person and determining what goals you will want to meet and where you want to start first. The second session and beyond will be you working to become comfortable with me as your therapist, me learning you and starting the work towards meeting your goals.
