Getting to know Dr. Lauren Melzer

I believe in "meeting people where they're at." I also consider therapy a great way of discovering what a beautiful life looks like for each person, recognizing that while we are all different, we share commonalities. I find that we can all find pockets of peace no matter how chaotic our lives are, and I love helping others find that too whether it's a stay-at-home mom, a mom juggling work and motherhood, or my millennial clients navigating whatever life is throwing their way. I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Queens College, City University of New York, and an EdD from Columbia University, which have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support my clients on their unique journeys.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have years of experience working with people in a therapeutic capacity. There is almost nothing you can say that will shock me. You will get an open-minded, non-judgmental, warm, and safe environment when working with me. Not only do I have the academic background, but I come with life experience too.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I see myself as an integrative practitioner; pulling theories and interventions from multi-modalities when appropriate such as Psychodynamic, Existentialism, CBT, Mindfulness, and Gottman, but at the core, always working through the Therapeutic Alliance of understanding and collaboration.
