Getting to know Liat Shklarski

I am a clinical social worker with over 10 years of clinical experience. I specialize in providing evidence-based and strengths-based therapy for individuals and couples therapy for adults with a history of trauma. In the therapeutic interaction, I provide a nonjudgmental and empathetic listening environment to help my clients find workable solutions to their concerns. I enjoy helping clients gain the skills they need to increase their awareness and create the changes they desire. As a therapist, it is a great gift to be a part of my clients’ journeys toward positive change. My goal is to help people improve their lives. I received my Ph.D. from Hunter College and my master’s degree from the University of Washington, and I am a graduate of the Contemporary Freudian Society (CFS) psychodynamic psychotherapy training program. I believe that in order to thrive in a successful practice, learning and research should be a lifelong endeavors. I am currently an assistant professor at Ramapo College of New Jersey’s School of Social Work, teaching evidence-based practice and human development classes to social work master’s students. My academic research focuses on effective clinical supervision; most recently, I have been examining the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic on clinical practice.
