“Lisa tells it like it is, which is exactly what I've been looking for. I appreciate it when therapists give me validation, but sometimes it feels condescending or like they're pandering to my self-confidence. Maybe I'm a little different from most people, but I need a good deal of "tough love" to get myself back on track. Lisa's follow-up questions often give me a better perspective on what are my conscious thoughts and what comes from my subconscious. I feel very comfortable being vulnerable around Lisa, though. She's very good at sensing when I'm dealing with a sensitive topic, and will hold off the tough questions, until I'm ready. It's been a pleasure to work with her, and I hope to have many more great sessions in the future!”

Getting to know Lisa Schlesinger

I do not accept insurance. However, I provide a detailed statement for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Payment is required upfront at the time you schedule your initial session. I will call you soon after you schedule your appointment to confirm. Let me introduce myself: I practice Psychodynamic therapy and Psychoanalysis. Both approaches offer awareness and relief from long-standing patterns of behaving, thinking, feeling, and relating that impact your satisfaction. Anxiety, depression, and hopelessness are often associated with these enduring patterns. I have a private practice in Bethesda, Maryland, accessible to people from the DC Metro Area. I also offer online therapy for patients who cannot easily get to my office. I have been practicing since 1994. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Maryland. I have completed advanced training at the Washington School of Psychiatry and the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. At the Washington Center, I completed the modern perspectives program in addition to a year-long infant observation. I am a Psychoanalyst with The Contemporary Freudian Society. I have training in working with individuals, families, children, and couples. I treat people with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and relationship difficulties. Additionally, I am certified in short-term therapies for both depression and anxiety disorders. I am a member of NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) and NASW (National Association of Social Workers). MY PHILOSOPHY Psychotherapy is for anyone interested in feeling better. I believe our difficulties often stem from early experiences that do not need to define us in the present. My job is to help you understand the reasons for your suffering, whether in your relationships or within yourself. I am here to help you recognize what you can change and to develop greater acceptance of what you cannot.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I practice psychoanalytic / psychodynamic talk therapy. My approach is to allow you the space to begin with what is on your mind. We will work 3 -4 sessions as a consultation period. At the end of the consultation. We will decide how often and then what way we will begin the therapy. .

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After scheduling an appointment, I ask that you call me. I will give you my Venmo address and will ask for payment prior to the session. After we decide to work together, I will give you a statement so that you can submit to your insurance company if you choose. I do not take insurance. A session will be 50 minutes. After 4 sessions, we will work to find a time or times that will considered ours. I charge for cancellations and missed sessions. I do try to reschedule when possible. I find that having a set time that you can count on, helps the process.

In-network insurances

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $300 for 50 minutes
Ongoing session: $300 for 50 minutes

More information on payments and coverage

I do not accept insurance. I collect fees via Venmo before the four initial consultation sessions. I will provide you with a super bill so that if you have out of network benefits, you can submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement. After the consultation, we will decide how and whether to continue working. At that point, we will determine session frequency and schedule. Billing and payments will occur at the end of each month.

I highly recommend Lisa Schlesinger as an analyst to individuals who are dealing with any issue. I am grateful to have had Lisa’s help for many years. In the time we have known eachother she has been with me through a marriage, pregnancy loss, the death of my husband, substance abuse, parenting, sexuality issues, a battle with cancer, and various relationship issues. It’s safe to say she has a lot of experience and has helped me transform my life. I have found myself in a peaceful place after working with her. Aside from her years of experience and training, she has a natural ability to make you feel understood which in turn has helped me to understand myself on a deeper level. She does not judge which makes it very easy to talk to. She takes her work seriously and it is clear that helping others by delving into the unconscious is her passion. Dream analysis is another one of her specialties. If you are lucky enough to get an appointment with her you should take it!

I have been working with psychoanalyst Lisa Schlesinger for the past seven years, and it has helped me grow immensely. Through this work, I have learned to sit with myself and feel comfortable in my own skin — a challenge I struggled with in the past, often feeling pulled in different directions. Lisa is warm, insightful, and incredibly intuitive. She holds space in a unique way that makes me feel seen, heard, and held — and sometimes even better than okay. I am so grateful for our work together. I have grown so much, and I am still growing.
