Getting to know Marcus Silverman

Psychotherapy is, most honestly, a very remarkable and often surprising kind of "conversation." The distinction being that when we have a "conversation," we only know where it will begin, but not where it will end. The "getting there," the movement toward "the end," is often a thought-provoking, pleasurable, funny, sad, profound experience that changes people in wholly positive ways. When therapist and patient develop a good working relationship, transformative things can happen. My work centers around creating a serious, useful, and private space to begin exploring the depths of what causes you to suffer or feel misunderstood. I hold a Master's in Psychoanalysis from the New York Graduate School of Psychoanalysis and have further training from the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies. In my practice, I see a diverse group of patients across many boundaries, be it gender, race, age, or sexuality. I have had meaningful success working with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, and other existential difficulties, as well as with couples-married or otherwise-particularly around communication challenges and post-infidelity issues. As part of my practice, I do not charge for consultations should they result in us deciding not to work together. My fee is generally flexible, and I work hard to accommodate, treat, and refer all patients regardless of financial circumstances. I am passionate about finding a way in which psychotherapy might be affordable, enjoyable, safe, and rewarding to you!

I began seeing Marcus Silverman last fall/winter during a very difficult time in my life. I was dealing with a lot of trauma resulting from personal experiences combined with bipolar disorder that he and my psychiatrist were almost miraculously able to get me through. Though I haven't seen him in a while, that's a credit to how effective my appointments and his general excellence as a psychotherapist were. If you need help, get help. You can't do much better than Mr. Silverman.
It was really good. He listened and came up with some good theories that I felt we could explore more to help me. Easy and direct communication.

Marcus Silverman has been my therapist for several years. Psychoanalysis has really helped me in particular reach my goals and come to an understanding of who I am, which allows me to make all decisions much better, and feel comfortable in my own skin. Marcus has had a lot to do with that, and has always been patient, insightful, and above all passionate about our work.
Helped me reach my therapy goals.
Doctor Silverman is warm and professional and seems very experience. I’ve really found our time useful and look forward to working with him in the future.
I thought Marcus was a warm, caring intelligent guide. He is a thoughtful listener, and I was impressed with his perspective and insight into the issues we discussed.
Dr. Silverman is a warm, caring, thoughtful therapist who works WITH his patients and not AT them. He has helped me for many years.
From the beginning of our time together, Marcus has provided a warm, caring and receptive environment for our sessions. He has been an excellent therapist, and I feel like I can share (and have shared) anything with him. He has guided me towards greater self-understanding with great skill and compassion. I would recommend him to anyone seeking such services in a heartbeat.
