What should a new client know about working with you?

I began helping families in 2016 by being trained in the Philadelphia Initiative, a program to expand access to PCIT for families seeking services through community mental health. I am a Certified PCIT Therapist and Within-Agency trainer by PCIT International. While training a team of doctoral interns in PCIT during the pandemic, I learned that I-PCIT, that is, PCIT delivered via Telehealth, not only worked as well as services delivered in the clinic, but also that there are distinct advantages of delivering the intervention this way. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania and an out-of-state telehealth provider for the state of Florida. I am able to accept Lyra Health benefits in each of these states. Here is some more information about my background and experience: -I am a Level I (Within-Agency) Trainer -I have graduated 100+ families with PCIT -I am trained in CARE, Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement -I was a supervisor in Intensive Family Coaching, IFC, an in- home delivery of PCIT for children with severe behaviors -I have successfully helped families with children who suffer from effects of trauma and stress, anxiety, difficulties with emotional regulation, and children with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My goal is to use PCIT to help YOU and your family meet your needs! During our initial session, I will meet with parents/caregivers alone so that I learn all about your child and your family and make sure that PCIT is going to be helpful. I will let you know if PCIT treatment is the best plan and we'll discuss how we can adapt it just for you. After the initial session, I will observe you and your child playing together so that I can see how they respond in different situations and understand your dynamic. After that, I will do a teaching session so that I can teach you the skills for our first part of treatment, the Child-Directed Interaction. Most of our sessions will include a coaching component. Coaching is what what makes PCIT work! Basically, I will watch you and your child interact through our online platform and COACH you through a bluetooth device/airpod so that I can help you use your skills in the moment! I can help you respond effectively to tantrums, validate your child's feelings, and help your child learn to follow directions. This is a virtual treatment that happens in your own home so that I can see what things are ACTUALLY like in your regular setting and understand your family's needs. Every week, I'll ask you to complete a behavioral measure to make sure that we're on the right track and treatment is working! Treatment ends when you are able to implement play therapy skills, discipline skills, feel confident, and your child is no longer acting out. This usually takes 3-4 months, depending upon your child and how much you practice and implement what we work on together.
