Getting to know Mary Rothfusz

I specialize in working with adults navigating trauma, including complex PTSD, as well as anxiety, burnout, and relational patterns that feel difficult to change. Many of the clients I work with are high-functioning and insightful, but feel stuck in cycles they understand yet can’t seem to shift—especially in relationships or during moments of stress. You may find yourself overthinking, emotionally overwhelmed, or disconnected despite doing a lot of internal work. My approach is relational, trauma-informed, and grounded in mindfulness and nervous system regulation. As a trained Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor, I integrate somatic and mindfulness-based practices to support both insight and meaningful, lasting change. Because much of this work involves long-standing patterns and trauma, I often work with clients over a longer period of time to support deeper, more sustainable change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is an active, collaborative process that integrates mindfulness, somatic awareness, and relational work. We focus not only on understanding your experiences but also on helping you shift patterns as they happen—especially in your body, emotional responses, and relationships. This may include developing awareness of the nervous system's responses, practicing grounding and regulation skills, and building a different relationship with thoughts and emotions. I tend to work well with clients who are reflective and motivated, as well as those who may be newer to therapy but are looking for a more grounded, practical way to understand and work through what they’re experiencing. Given the nature of trauma work, this is often longer-term therapy focused on depth rather than short-term symptom relief. Sessions are grounded and conversational, with space for both deeper exploration and practical change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin with an initial consultation and intake process where we explore what’s bringing you to therapy and what you’re hoping to change. Early sessions focus on building a strong foundation—understanding your history, identifying patterns, and increasing awareness of how these show up emotionally and in the body. From there, we begin to work more directly with these patterns using a combination of relational, somatic, and mindfulness-based approaches. As therapy progresses, the work becomes more experiential and integrated. Because this work often involves long-standing trauma and relational patterns, therapy is typically a longer-term process focused on meaningful, lasting change rather than short-term solutions.

Mary is a highly competent and knowledgeable psychotherapist who brings depth, insight, and professionalism to the therapeutic environment. Her inclusive approach creates a safe and affirming space for clients of all backgrounds, and her clinical expertise is evident in the thoughtful, evidence-based care she provides. Mary is thoughtful, patient, yet intentional in helping clients explore their inner selves.
Mary is an awesome therapist. She is empathetic and I feel like I can tell her anything - no judgement, no pretense. She also has a really soothing vibe and I am so happy to have met her.
As a fellow therapist, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and collaborating with Mary and have consistently been impressed by the warmth and compassion she brings into her work. She has a naturally calming presence that helps clients feel seen, safe, and supported from the very beginning. What sets her apart is her intuitive ability to hold space in a grounded, nurturing way — often integrating breathwork and guided meditations into her sessions. These tools not only help clients regulate in the moment but also empower them to build a deeper connection with themselves outside of therapy. She’s one of those rare clinicians who truly lives the values of empathy, presence, and authenticity in her work. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a therapist who brings both skill and heart to the therapeutic process. You will feel so lucky to have her by your side!
