Getting to know Matthew Stevens

"Hello, I'm Matthew. I became a professional counselor because I want to empower people to be their best in relationships with themselves and others. I help my clients reconnect with themselves and what matters most to them, aligning to their North Star and setting a course towards personal growth, even in the most challenging times. The work I do with individuals, families, and groups is an expression of my commitment to positive social change in my community and across the state. My counselor identity is complemented by over 23 years of service as a Navy chaplain, where I gained significant experience integrating personal belief systems into the care I provided to Sailors and Marines from diverse religious backgrounds. This experience has given me a unique perspective and deep understanding of the issues related to military service, caregiving fatigue, and life transitions. I specialize in a wide range of areas including anger management, multicultural and diversity issues, family relationships, grief and bereavement, life transitions, intimate and romantic relationships, spirituality, stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and military/veteran support. My approach is integrative, respecting cultural beliefs and practices while creating holistic treatment plans that empower my clients to overcome challenges and become their best selves. I track progress through client-reported outcomes to ensure that our treatment plans are achieving the results you most want to see. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors and a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider through the Center for Credentialing and Education. Additionally, I hold certifications from the SonderMind Baseline Veteran Education Program and am licensed as a Professional Counselor and Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
