“Carrie Cohen is wonderful with my child and skillfully addresses all of their numerous therapeutic challenges. In addition, Carrie was the only therapist who was willing to stand up to my high-conflict ex. I understand why the other therapists didn't want to deal with my ex. so I was impressed when Carrie put the needs of my child first and continued to treat them. Carrie is a rare gem of a therapist so do yourself a favor and hire her!”

Getting to know Natasha (Carrie) Cohen

Our modern world can be quite an overstimulating, overwhelming place where things are constantly in flux. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space to help clients work at their own pace to process and explore their thoughts and feelings. I am a trauma-informed, sex-positive clinician with advanced training in CBT, DBT, play therapy, and maternal mental health. I have 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults both remotely and in person. I currently have daytime remote availability for adults and a couple of in-person slots for kids. I am passionate about helping new moms adjust to the demands, challenges, fears, and joys that accompany parenthood, and I am experienced in treating PMADs. I also provide parent coaching to parents with toddlers, school-age kids, and adolescents. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. Feel free to schedule a free 15-minute consult!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Please do NOT book an appointment with me unless you intend to keep it. Initial sessions are an opportunity for myself and prospective clients to gauge if we may be a good fit. If we seem to be, I ask that clients fill out an intake form, which I spend the first few sessions reviewing. Then I typically collaborate with clients to create treatment goals they wish to work on and explore how they want to use the time in our sessions and what modality may be most useful.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I find consults are an effective way to determine whether or not it may or may not be a good fit. I am more of an interactive therapist who provides resources and teaches skills using CBT and/or DBT than a traditional psychoanalyst. I do see children in person in Ditmas Park and utilize play therapy and CBT.

Carrie is a wonderful and caring therapist. She has seen both of my children (one neurodivergent, and one neurotypical), and has built great rapport with them. This has enabled her to teach them many new social emotional skills. I'd highly recommend her.
Carrie has seen my son for over a year now. She came recommended by another therapist he was seeing that was taking on a new role. She is always professional, and child centered. She has helped him through a lot, and she is communicative and responsive when I need to reach out. She is a wealth of knowledge, and always has thoughtful solutions and methodologies. We are so very grateful to have found her.
