Getting to know Nathan Flessner

Going into therapy can be an intimidating process. Beyond the logistics, finding a therapist that you connect with and trust to guide you in your mental health journey is no small task. I do my best to make this process as easy and straightforward as possible. Flexible scheduling, individualized care, and prompt responsiveness are all things you can expect from working with me. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois Chicago and bring over 6 years of experience in the mental health field. I have extensive experience working with youth and young adults, having served in youth residential programs and as a school social worker in both high school and elementary school settings. More recently, I transitioned into private therapy, working with people of all ages and genders on a wide range of issues. Alongside considerable experience addressing life anxieties and depression, my specialties include relationship issues, ADHD/executive dysfunction, and navigating life transitions, both for young adults and those in midlife. When you choose therapy with me, you can rest assured that our time together will be guided by your needs and feelings. This time is your time, and I am here to listen, support, collaborate, and most importantly, understand. I look forward to working with you!

Nathan is empathetic, responsive, and helpful. He takes notes, tries to understand and empathize with what is said. He's gone above and beyond with working with my insurance and is constantly trying to make sure we are talking about and working towards what is best for me even if that goes beyond his expertise. I've worked with many therapists in the past that seemed removed or uninterested in your emotions and feelings. Even some that have completely forgotten whole sessions. I've never felt that way with Nathan, he pays attention and genuinely wants whats best for you. Highly recommend.
Nathan has been an incredible therapist and has made such a positive impact on my life. As my first therapist, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Nathan immediately put me at ease with his kind, empathetic, and professional demeanor. He helped me navigate a difficult breakup and continues to provide invaluable support in improving my executive function skills. Nathan’s approach is compassionate and insightful. He listens without judgment and offers practical strategies that have made a difference in my day-to-day life. Thanks to his guidance, I feel more confident in managing challenges and progressing toward my goals. I’m so grateful for his help and would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone seeking a thoughtful, skilled, and supportive therapist.
Nathan is superb! He's very accommodating and his beaming personality never disappoints. I enjoy talking with Nathan - he will come up with the right thing to say or with good ideas to solve my issue at hand.
Incredibly personable, Works through ideas and lets patients flow and talk about things at their own pace. Gives incredible advice and really does well at listening and pushing you towards understanding and learning.
Nathan has been a great therapist. He's an excellent listener and analytic thinker. He manages the push and pull of keeping sessions on track and productive while also letting them flow naturally. I'd recommend him to a friend without reservation.
Nathan Flessner is a very warm and welcoming therapist. He always makes me feel heard, and he is very patient. He provides the perfect balance of pushing me when I need it and sitting with me in my grief and difficulties when I need comfort. He is a very open-minded, kind, and understanding person, and I can't recommend him enough as a therapist.
Nathan is the perfect blend of friendly yet professional and I found it very natural to develop a rapport him. He is a good listener and provides thoughtful responses. Nathan also seems to offer a multi-pronged approach to therapy and offers nuanced strategies and perspectives for different issues. He is easy to schedule appointments with and has been flexible towards working around unexpected circumstances. I highly recommend Nathan for anyone looking for a therapist.
As context, our 17 year son has been working with Nathan for a few months. Nathan is empathetic, thoughtful, supportive and grounded. He listens very well and has a deep understanding and appreciation for the social dynamics and challenges that young adults need to manage. In a sense, he plays the mentor/coach role with our son who has "allowed" him to assume that role because he fundamentally trusts Nathan and because as he has said to us many times, "Nathan gets it and Nathan understands me". Our son looks forward to his weekly meetings with Nathan and in summary, Nathan has been very helpful and accretive in our son's social development journey. He has helped our son build greater self-awareness and confidence, as well as a better understanding of how to read social situations. We highly recommend Nathan,
Nathan is thoughtful, light-hearted, and thorough. I sincerely enjoyed my conversations with him and consistently felt heard.
Nathan made an instant connection with our high achieving 13 yo son. Nathan helps him break down seemingly large topics into actionable chucks, and summarizes important ideas in a way that makes them digestible. Amazing/clear communication with parents.
Nathan is a wonderful therapist who is really in tune with the specific needs of his clients. He is great at balancing the line between asking probing questions to get the conversation flowing and sitting back and listening when you need to be heard. He provides a non judgmental and safe space to feel seen and heard, I really recommend him to anyone needing to find a good therapist! He is also flexible with his schedule so is able to accommodate whatever you need!
I’ve been seeing Nate for a while now, and I couldn’t be more grateful for his compassionate and caring approach. He creates a warm and supportive environment that makes it easy to open up and feel heard. While he maintains a high level of professionalism, he is also incredibly relatable, which helps build trust and connection. His ability to balance empathy with clear, practical guidance has been instrumental in helping me navigate challenges and grow in my personal journey. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking a therapist who genuinely cares and fosters a safe space for healing and growth.”
Nathan has been my son's therapist for several months now. He is kind, approachable, respectful, and my son loves him. He finds ways to relate to him and makes him feel comfortable. His communication with me as a parent is wonderful. I can't recommend him enough!
Nathan is an excellent practitioner; he listens, is fully engaged, and ensures that I am getting what I need out of our sessions. I have benefitted greatly from his empathetic and inquisitive nature, which enables me to dig deeper and understand root causes. Additionally, appointment times are incredibly convenient for someone in a demanding corporate environment like myself. I would recommend Nathan, and Empathic Artisans, to anyone looking for a therapy provider!
