Getting to know Nekea Strong

Nekea is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) and an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) who is currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, Elise Stark, LPCC, at Abundant Life Therapy. Hi my name is Nekea (nuh-key-yah). As a woman of color, I understand how the different parts of “who we are”, our experiences, identities, and relationships, shape the way we see and move through the world. I strive to create a space that feels safe, supportive, and real, where you can show up fully without judgment. I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and groups from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultural perspectives. My work is especially centered on supporting women, people of color, adolescents, and public figures as they navigate life’s challenges and transitions. Whether you’re healing from grief, processing trauma, or learning to set boundaries and care for yourself in new ways, my goal is to help you reconnect with your voice and your sense of self. Therapy, to me, is both a place of reflection and empowerment, a space to better understand your story and to write new chapters with clarity and confidence.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I offer clients a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can openly explore their identities, life experiences, and emotions. It's important to recognize that many people carry unspoken stories rooted in cultural identity, childhood trauma, and shame, often without having the language or support to process them. In our work together, I aim to help you give voice to those experiences, offering compassion, curiosity, and care as you make sense of your past and move toward healing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is grounded in a deep commitment to inclusivity and collaboration. I value each person’s background, culture, and story, and I see therapy as something we build together. I use a mix of approaches based on your needs, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the Gottman Method. TF-CBT helps connect thoughts, emotions, and behaviors—especially when healing from difficult experiences. EMDR supports the brain in processing painful memories so they feel less overwhelming. The Gottman Method helps couples strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and navigate conflict in healthier ways. By combining these methods, I aim to create a space that feels supportive, empowering, and tailored to your unique story.
