Getting to know Noah Liker

It is a privilege to help others on their healing journey. I strive to create a relationship with my clients that is both personable and transparent. As no two people are the same, there is no single approach to therapy. This is why my goal is to tailor my approach to your needs. I excel in challenging my clients to build a sense of agency in their lives and to find the confidence to make their own decisions. I hold a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of San Diego, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to support diverse client needs effectively. I am committed to bringing a sense of curiosity to our sessions as we work together to understand your unique life. I gravitate towards working with adult men ages 18-40 who are in need of exploring themselves, their self-image, and their worldview. Your symptoms may be clues to deeper problems; problems that men are often discouraged from talking about in our society. In therapy, you don't have to "suck it up" or "rub some dirt in it." Instead, you are encouraged to express yourself and to get outside your comfort zone. My goal is always to be the person who shows up for themself in order to show up for others. I focus on maintaining my balance so I can be a helping hand to those also looking for their own. Off the clock, you can catch me at the dog park with my four-legged best friend. A therapy dog at heart, he reminds me to take life slow and enjoy the little things. Born and raised in San Diego, I always appreciate a nice day at the beach and the sunny weather that allows me to be outside. I practice yoga regularly, listen to podcasts daily, and my guilty pleasure is traveling and collecting refrigerator magnets.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The term "motivational interviewing" (MI) is a client-centered, directive approach that aims to enhance one's intrinsic motivation for change by exploring ambivalence (as well as one's core values). In other words, I spend a great deal of time helping you create the change within yourself. In addition to MI, I will provide you with psychoeducation (using cognitive behavioral techniques), distress tolerance and emotion regulation skills (using dialectical behavioral therapy), and enjoy pulling concepts from internal family systems (IFS). Therapy is a collaborative effort. If you're ready to do the work, I will meet you halfway and make the journey with you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After spending the first few sessions learning about you, I gravitate towards addressing and unlocking the underlying issues that seem to be holding you back. I also give real-time skills and feedback so you feel supported and understood. I excel at using a natural sense of curiosity to navigate the intricacies of your life story.
