“Since 2019 Noel has helped me process and navigate psychedelic trips, gender dysphoria and transition, coming out, sexuality, relationships, my career, my childhood, dreams, cancer, death - am I missing something? Almost five years later my work with Noel continues to be incredibly valuable, rewarding, transformative, and healing. Noel is an excellent, empathetic, patient listener who always makes me feel comfortable and safe sharing whatever surfaces from the depths of my psyche. Every question, observation, and advice she voices consistently prove her expertise, sensitivity, and brilliance. Noel's care has always felt genuine, honest, and productive. Not once have I doubted her commitment to helping me. I cherish every session and lesson. I'll carry Noel's teachings with me for the rest of my life. If the search for a therapist feels like a gamble let me tell you Noel is a jackpot. I wouldn't bet on anyone else. ”

Getting to know Noel Bohl-Fabian

I am both a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst, offering one-on-one sessions in lower Manhattan as well as remote therapy through Zoom, phone, or other secure telehealth platforms. While psychotherapy focuses on addressing specific concerns through conversation and therapeutic techniques, psychoanalysis takes a deeper approach, exploring unconscious patterns and long-term personal transformation. I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, gender identity and dysphoria, and trauma related to sexual abuse. The world today can feel overwhelming, with political and social realities creating constant pressure and uncertainty. My practice provides a space to process these challenges—a place where you can think, reflect, and work through the stress of daily life without judgment. I believe everyone has the capacity for personal transformation and emotional resilience, even when old fears or limiting thought patterns seem insurmountable. My role is to help people move through these internal obstacles, developing a stronger sense of self and a deeper connection to what feels true and meaningful. I am also certified in Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration (PHRI), which means I provide a structured, judgment-free environment for discussing psychedelic experiences, altered states of consciousness, and their potential impact on mental health. This is not about endorsing or encouraging psychedelic use—rather, it’s about helping people process and make sense of these experiences in a way that supports their well-being. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University, which has deeply informed my approach to therapy and psychoanalysis. If you're interested in working together or have any questions, feel free to reach out. I look forward to connecting with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My initial focus for our work together is simply getting to know each other. I may ask about your personal history and what brought you to therapy, as well as any prior experiences in therapy. I like to know what has or has not helped before. I do my best to provide a safe, non-judgmental container and encourage feedback from time to time. My goal is to create an atmosphere of trust, respect and care. My style is informed by my training as a psychoanalyst. This means I listen for unconscious thoughts, feelings, and motivations that may be informing the present moment. I like to ask questions that are thought-provoking and encourage reflection. There is no right or wrong way to "do" therapy; it is always different for every person. That being said, I focus on building greater self-awareness that helps to gain perspective on where you've been in the past, where you want to go, and where you are now. Inevitably there will be roadblocks on the path to healing, recovery, and growth. I believe it is equally important to understand the way we may sometimes prevent ourselves from moving forward to let go of suffering and embrace a more compassionate stance towards ourselves and others. This process takes time, patience, courage, and dedication.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session might begin with checking in about how you have felt since our last meeting. I encourage my clients to say whatever is on their minds without censoring or judging what is there. I believe there is a lot to learn from the way our minds operate, how our thoughts and feelings become known or unknown to us. Once we have established a rapport, we can work collaboratively to understand your hopes, expectations, desires, fears, and fantasies for what might happen as a result of beginning psychotherapy. I hold space for practical skills such as developing a self-care routine, setting effective boundaries, and enhancing communication. Many of my clients want to feel better, but don't necessarily know how or in what ways. We will work together to find what supports your personal growth and identify what tends to get in the way.
