Getting to know Dr. Paige Sweet

I see people in person and virtually for psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. Whatever leads you to seek out therapy—traumatic past events, painful memories, difficult feelings, persistent stressors, or other difficulties—our work will guide you in building stronger relationships and more satisfying ways of being in the world. I hold a Certificate in Psychoanalysis from the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis, a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Minnesota, and a Master’s in Humanities and Social Thought from New York University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I see psychoanalytic psychotherapy as offering a distinct way of understanding how we’re troubled by the world as much as by our personal experiences. I invite exploration of all forms of relationships, including those with intimate partners, co-workers, children, parents, and others, as well as our relationship to political events or other social factors.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At the heart of psychoanalytic psychotherapy is the belief that talking reduces suffering. Talking to someone trained to listen with empathy and openness can help you begin a process of self-exploration and healing. I see our time together as a collaboration. Our aim is not simply to alleviate your symptoms, though that’s likely to be one outcome, but also to help you achieve a greater sense of calmness and connection, an increased sense of liveliness, access to a broader range of felt experiences, and a refined attunement to others.
