Getting to know Pallavi Rohatgi

Pallavi Rohatgi, MA, Ed.M., MHC-LP is a Columbia University–trained New York State Mental Health Counselor (Limited Permit) with dual master’s degrees in Counseling Psychology and Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University. She also holds a Master of Laws from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Pune, India. Pallavi brings over two decades of lived experience to her work as a bilingual (English & Hindi) therapist—experience that spans continents, careers, and life roles. Before entering the field of mental health, she worked as a lawyer, filmmaker, nonprofit leader, and mother. Her own nonlinear journey informs her deep respect for the multiple identities and stories her clients carry, and the need for therapy to hold all of it with care. At the heart of Pallavi’s work is the belief that therapy isn’t about fixing—it’s about honoring what’s already there. It’s a space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with parts of ourselves that may have been silenced or forgotten. She holds therapy as a practice of truth-telling, curiosity, and compassion—and as a place where clients can slowly rebuild trust in themselves and begin again.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Pallavi's practice is grounded in the understanding that life doesn’t unfold in straight lines—and neither does healing. Pallavi works with individuals navigating transitions, identity shifts, grief, trauma, and the often unseen emotional terrain of motherhood and caregiving. She is particularly drawn to supporting women in midlife or mid-career, as well as those seeking to reconnect with a deeper sense of self after years of striving, surviving, or putting others first.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Pallavi’s therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and steady. She is especially skilled at holding space for complexity, contradiction, and emotional heaviness, meeting clients with deep listening and a calm, attuned presence. Her approach draws from psychodynamic and behavioural frameworks and integrates training in AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), TLDP (Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy), REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy), mindfulness, and self-compassion practices. Pallavi creates a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients can untangle patterns, process experiences, and gently re-imagine their inner lives.

Pallavi made me feel comfortable and at ease from the moment we started the first session. I have struggled in the past with finding a therapist that I felt truly understood and connected to, but Pallavi’s demeanor and stories about her own experiences make me feel like have FINALLY found someone who can Truly relate to my own, and support me in my journey. Pallavi is a warm and caring clinician. She is deeply committed to her clients, and creates a safe and supportive space for them to grow and heal.
I had a session with Palllavi and had a positive experience. She was extremely calm and patient throughout, and I felt completely heard. What I really appreciated was how she gently turned my negative thoughts and feelings into something positive and hopeful. Her self-help suggestions are wonderful, practical, not overwhelming, which is something I tend to run away from. I left the session feeling lighter, motivated, and cared for. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for thoughtful and effective guidance.
Pallavi is an excellent therapist and has been there for me during an exceptionally challenging time in my life. She listens without any judgement and isn't in a rush to solve problems. I like the space she gave me to explore the crests and troughs of my distress, to myself find solutions that take into consideration the origins of where everything stemmed. I would highly recommend her, and she is deeply sensitive about each person's cultural, socioeconomic geopolitical orientations. Great job, Pallavi!
It was a meaningful experience for me. After a long time, I felt truly heard. I shared every part of my heart with Pallavi Ji, and she kept noting things down in between. In the end, she shared some fundamental thoughts with me, which I am now trying to practice in my life. I want to thank her for helping me regain my self-confidence. Really Thanks!
I’m 36 and Dr.Pallevi has been such a great support. She’s super friendly, easy to talk to, and really understands people from all different backgrounds. I always feel comfortable and heard with her.
