Getting to know Patrick Jeter

I have been working as a counselor (supervised by a licensed counselor, registered counselor, and eventually as a fully Licensed Professional Counselor) since 2013. I primarily help young adults and adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, symptoms of Bipolar I and II and/or substance use issues (combined with mood issues or addiction alone). I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (occasionally with elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Positive Psychology, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (along with elements of Gestalt when appropriate and useful) to assist clients to increase control over their own emotional states leading to increased quality of living characterized by emotional balance and overall stability. Since earning my master’s degree in counseling in 2013, I have worked at five different facilities that provided behavioral health services – two provided outpatient counseling/therapy and three provided inpatient counseling/therapy services. I have experience working with individuals struggling with symptoms of Bipolar (both I and II), Schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety. I also have experience helping clients work with problems within family systems, relationship issues, grief issues, work-related stress, sexual orientation, and problems managing major life transitions (like retirement). I also have experience working with clients who have some level of legal involvement (e.g., probation, parole, treatment/drug court). I use language that clients understand, and I operate from the perspective that clients have the answers to their problems within themselves. I do not attempt to “fix” anyone, and I do not pretend to know all the answers clients seek. I offer realistic hope for a healthier and happier life that a person can build and maintain for themselves... along with the teaching, guidance, and support necessary to get there.
