Getting to know Paul Myers
I'm Paul, CEO & M.A. LPC-Supervisor at Intentional Counseling. Counseling is my life's calling. I've dedicated my time and energy to making a difference in the lives of people because I believe that we are the most valuable part of God's creation. Everyone has needs and dreams and deserves to live a life full of meaning, purpose, and joy. My heart goes out to individuals when they face trials because I've been there. Thank you for seeking help. It's a clear sign that you are taking responsibility for your life. It's rewarding to watch my clients grow and become healthier, stronger versions of themselves.
I received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master's in Psychology from Dallas Baptist University. I've worked with Hope For The Heart, Texas Health Resources, and Stonebriar Counseling Associates. I've also worked as an Emergency Room Psychiatric Crisis Clinician at Texas Health Resources in North Dallas, where I performed crisis counseling, psychiatric evaluations, and inpatient transfers.
I'm a current member of Focus On The Family's Christian Counselors Network and a former member of the Christian Association of Psychological Studies. I've been fortunate enough to be named "Top 3 Marriage Counselors in Frisco" by Three Best Rated for five consecutive years. My group counseling practice, Intentional Counseling, has also been awarded "The Best Counseling Service In Frisco" by Quality Business Awards.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I offer deep listening and thoughtful collaboration to help you bring clarity and insight to the things in your life that you would like to change. My counseling approach is direct and concrete so that you are better equipped for change. Seeking therapy doesn’t mean you’re broken or weak. It means you’re courageous. I applaud you for taking responsibility for your life and wanting to improve your mental health.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Patients complete an online intake electronically prior to their first session. The intake helps the clinician gather necessary information to expedite the evaluation process for faster progress. The initial session is a diagnostic evaluation performed in a causal, judgement-free setting in our office location or virtually. We make a point to make clients feel comfortable disclosing and to provide more concrete feedback during sessions to push for progress. After our client has shared and we have conceptualized the case, we begin to push for positive progress. Our therapeutic approach is warm, direct, didactic, and often involves homework assignments. Our approach involves the following theoretical orientations:
