Paula Tisdale, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
"Hi, my name is Paula, and I am a Trauma-Informed Therapist with over 15 years of clinical experience working with individuals, couples, families, and young adults impacted by adverse traumatic experiences and major life events. My approach is holistic, and I assist families and major stakeholders in gaining a better understanding of the benefits of therapy to garner their support and increase successful treatment outcomes. In 2009, I graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, with a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and I provide Clinical Supervision and mentorship to individuals seeking Virginia licensure. I started my journey working with Veterans impacted by traumatic events from combat and sexual trauma, and those transitioning from the military. I also worked at a private practice providing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Neurofeedback. My goal is to provide you with a therapeutic space that’s safe and promotes self-discovery, self-acceptance, and resiliency. My approach is eclectic, drawing from numerous evidence-based traditional therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), as well as some of the newer and less known cutting-edge approaches like Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM). I specialize in working with a variety of issues including suicidal ideation and self-harming behaviors, anger management, anxiety, depression, family relationships, grief and bereavement, LGBTQIA+ support, life transitions, military and veteran support, multicultural and diversity issues, phobias, PTSD, intimate and romantic relationships, sex and intimacy issues, sleep disorders, somatic symptom disorder, spirituality, stress, trauma, and dissociative disorders.
