What should a new client know about working with you?

I really work to humanize the process of therapy. In my personal life, I have met with multiple therapists through different walks of life. One thing that bothered me in my own journey was a robotic and very clinical feel to therapy. For some people, that works and there is no judgment there! For me, as a person and a therapist - that's just not who I am. I strive to create an environment for my clients that they can feel comfortable, at ease, and cared for. I have been known to use humor in session and challenge my clients to consider different coping skills or perspectives when needed.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Before we meet, I will send over some paperwork to be completed 24 hours prior to our first session. This paperwork gives me an idea of what you are looking for and if we are a good fit. It is also a time for you to reflect on what your therapeutic needs are. Once the paperwork is received, I will review it prior to our session. At the time of our session, we will log onto the HIPAA compliant platform used for telehealth sessions. We will go over the practive policies and then jump into getting to know you and your needs. You will have an opportunity to ask me any questions you may have and we can talk about scheduling moving forward. The first two to three sessions will be a "getting to know you" process. Once we have finished the history gathering and goal setting, we will move into our sessions in which we will work on meeting our therapeutic goals. You will also have time to talk about whatever it is that you need to discuss. Maybe you had a rough day at work and need to talk about that or maybe you've met someone new that you are really excited about dating. Whatever the needs are, I am here to work with you.
