Getting to know Randal Withers

I am passionate about working with people who struggle with mental health and addictions. I'm particularly passionate about working with and providing therapy for men. Men are struggling out there, yet they are less likely to admit they need help, let alone seek it out. It is my honor to treat anyone who is willing to do the work, but I must admit I have a special place in my heart for: - College kids, because man, have they had a crappy few years - First responders, veterans, and law enforcement, because they need the support and are reluctant to seek it out - Men of all ages who need help with their relationships, because even the best ones are still hard to maintain - Fellow therapists, because I really do get the struggle - Hard-working employees who struggle with work-related burnout - Those who struggle with alcohol and drug problems, because I have been in recovery for almost 20 years and I know what it's like What do you struggle with? How about you schedule a free 15-minute phone call and we'll talk about it. Let's see if we're a good fit! My ideal client is motivated to change and willing to do the work-they're just not sure how. If that's you, we'll be a good fit. I've had my own struggles with mental illness and drug addiction, and I feel like those personal experiences have made me a better counselor. I suppose you can be the judge of that. I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University, a Master's in Education, and a Bachelor's degree from Florida State University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am solution-focused and directive, and I believe that behavioral change is both necessary and empowering. I am supportive, but I am a big believer in accountability as well. If you are looking for a more passive therapist, I'm not your guy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy is a collaboration between client and counselor. It requires honesty, effort, and transparency from both parties. Sometimes I use worksheets, but most of the time, I'm engaging clients in conversations designed to help them challenge the way they think, as thinking errors are often a huge factor with trauma, depression, and anxiety. Be ready to be challenged!
