“I have already expressed to my family how amazing our appointment was. All of the questions asked and all of the conversations we had made me and my daughter feel very comfortable and confident that this was the right choice for her and us. I noticed the exact moment she sort of lit up and started being able to talk- like she had someone on her side, she had someone listening. As a mother, this felt amazing. And we look forward to our appointments moving forward.”

Getting to know Dr. Rebecca Cohen

Hello, I am Rebecca L. Cohen, EdD, LPC. I earned my EdD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Argosy University, Sarasota, and hold a Master's degree from Troy University. I have been working in mental health for almost 10 years and in social services for over 20. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, stress management, addiction/recovery, and many other issues. I love working with people and helping them create their best life. I believe that each person is capable of moving forward and making lasting, healing mental health progress in their life. I utilize techniques from CBT, DBT, Reality Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and even some Art Therapy to help clients learn new skills and ways of processing information to assist in mental health progress. Please note I am a psychotherapist, a counselor, not a psychiatrist. If you are looking for medication assistance, please be aware that I cannot help with that; however, I can provide a safe space to work on issues related to mental health and life stress and help you learn skills to better manage day to day. If you don't see times that work for you, please reach out with questions so I can work to help meet your needs

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that in the end you are the expert about your life. I am here to help you "unpack" what you are mentally carrying and learn some new ways to deal with all the issues you are dealing with in life. I believe in having an understanding of the life events that got you to where you are, but to also be adding in action steps/coping skills to help you have some active change now. Please note that I am and a therapist, I cannot prescribe medication. If you are seeking medication assistance I cannot assist you. However I can assist in helping you process the issues you are facing and develop healthy coping and behavior skills to improve your life which does help any the effectiveness of any medication prescribed by your doctors. I look forward to working with you soon.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process for working with clients, is doing an intake session where we review what brings you to therapy now and any other important information from areas of your life such as biological (medical), social, and psychological. Afterwards, we will meet weekly or biweekly depending on need and focus on goals created to help you address the issues identified in the initial session. Clients always have a say in their treatment - therefore, if we are working on depression, but anxiety has been increasing over the week we will refocus on anxiety for a time to meet what is critical and needed to help you function at your best.
