Getting to know Richard Swaine

Hi, I'm Mike. I have been working with both adolescents and adults for more than a decade and still love my job. Becoming a licensed therapist is actually my third career choice, following exciting careers in Oceanography and Motorsports. Although those fields were thrilling, having the opportunity to help people heal makes this career the most rewarding for me. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Florida (1985), a Master of Marine Science from the University of South Florida (1996), and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Liberty University (2007). My journey in counseling began in private practice and evolved into several Director positions at a local hospital and residential programs. Despite managing others, I always made sure to work with patients on a weekly basis, utilizing therapeutic approaches like TF-CBT, REBT, and DBT. Now, I am thrilled to return to 100% counseling, and I'm excited about applying my experience using Telehealth. My specialties include adolescent and teen mental/behavioral health, anger management, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, family relationships, gender identity, grief and bereavement, intimate and romantic relationships, LGBTQIA+ support, medical issues/physical health, military and veteran support, PTSD, sex and intimacy issues, somatic symptom disorder, stress, suicidal ideation and/or self-harming, trauma, and traumatic brain injury. I’ve been married for over two decades and am the proud father of two adult children. In my free time, I enjoy a variety of activities with my wife, as well as woodworking, hunting, and fishing. These hobbies help me stay grounded and bring balance to my life. If you're looking for a compassionate and experienced therapist to support you through your journey, I would be honored to work with you. Let's take the first step together.
