Robert Binger, LCPC

Robert Binger, LCPC

Psychotherapist
MD
Trauma and autism specialist trained in EMDR, IFS, ACT and DBT. I work with many clients that have complex symptom presentations that have made finding understanding and relief difficult. I help to understand how different biological and environmental factors can overlap to better work with our nervous systems instead of against them. I believe we adapt as best we can to the lives we're given and those adaptations, though sometimes inconvenient, should be loved for what they've allowed us to survive. From that compassionate foundation we can work together to get where you're trying to go. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Level Two (CCTP-II) and Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS). I am also specially trained in EMDR, DBT, internal family systems (IFS), and cognitive processing therapy (CPT), all of which are effective in trauma treatment. I utilize all tools available to help connect with ourselves. I understand that trauma affects all of us differently and can change us in ways that affect us for life. I struggled for years, resorting to self-medication and almost ending my own life, until I got help. I want to be that lifeline for others. Take that step today and let's talk.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I approach therapy from a strength-based, bottom-up approach. That means that I help clients recognize what strengths they already have, whether they be inherent qualitites of their personalities or adaptations to the challenges that have been thrown their way, and utilize those to help clients connect with what their body is doing when under distress in order to find a way forward. Many therapy modalities take a "top-down" approach, where our thinking influences what we feel, but, if you're like me, you may have found that while you can understand the "why" of what's going on, that hasn't provided sufficient relief or enabled you to live the full life you're seeking. That's why I approach therapy in a way that helps clients "befriend" their nervous system to find ways forward.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I provide several different modalities that we can utilize in session either as a consistent path or with flexibility to meet clients' needs. You are the expert on yourself, so you will be in charge of where we go and how we get there. I'm here to provide the tools along the way and am always looking for feedback from my clients to ensure we're on track.
