Getting to know Ryann Catapano

Ryann Catapano has been dancing both locally and professionally for the past twenty-five years, but her true passion is teaching. Ryann’s primary styles of training are based on classic Fosse techniques, precision line, musical theater, and tap. At the age of seventeen, she was one of ten girls to win the Radio City Rockette Intensive Training Scholarship and spent three summers assisting several directors in their endeavors to mold up-and-coming Rockette hopefuls. She has also performed at Lincoln Center, Radio City, Carnegie Hall, and the Beacon Theatre with numerous performance companies, some of which were directed by Rockette/Broadway legends. Ryann worked as a dance director herself for several Long Island high school musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Hairspray, Bye Bye Birdie, and Guys and Dolls. Ryann currently judges for two touring competition companies and teaches at conventions all over the United States. In addition to her extensive dance background, Ryann earned a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University, which complements her career as a registered dance/movement therapist. She hopes to continue using dance as a vehicle of expression and support for those in need. Ryann also feels it is important for young artists to give back to the community, using their talents to raise awareness and support causes in need. She has helped produce several “Have a Heart and Make a Joyful Noise” charities, where the arts communities have participated to raise money for the construction of schools in Bashtanka, Ukraine, to support Wish Kids through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and to provide more financial support to the Long Island Breast Cancer Coalition, just to name a few. What could really bring more joy to the world than the art of dance?!
