Getting to know Sarah Shelley

Navigating life's ups and downs can be challenging, and sometimes doing it on our own can be exhausting. Asking for help is often the hardest part, and you're already halfway there! As a compassionate and dedicated therapist with a Master’s in Addiction Counseling from Montclair State University, my goal is to create a welcoming and non-judgmental space where you can feel heard, supported, and empowered. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing, tailoring my approach to meet your unique needs. I have extensive experience working in a higher level of care in addiction treatment, which has prepared me to effectively support individuals dealing with not only addiction but also co-occurring mental health challenges. This experience has deepened my understanding of the complexities that can accompany mental health and substance use issues, and I am well-equipped to help you navigate any overlapping concerns. I pride myself on being efficient while maintaining a warm, approachable presence, and I am committed to meeting you exactly where you are in your healing process. My person-centered and solution-focused mindset ensures that our work together is collaborative, with a focus on your individual goals and challenges. Whether you’re looking to build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, or increase motivation, my goal is to help you feel motivated, comfortable, and confident in your journey toward healing. No two people are the same, so I customize my treatment approach to best support you on your path to wellness. Sarah Shelley is an “Associate Counselor” and is currently working under the supervision of Chase Girvin. Their license number is 37AC00838300.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use a combination of therapeutic modalities to help you navigate through your healing journey. Being solution focused on individualized goals, as well as incorporating aspects of DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and maintaining a person-focused view of care, allows me to create a safe, non-judgmental space.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When working with clients, my first priority is to establish expectations and some goals that you are looking to achieve. Doing this helps me tailor treatment to the individual and make sure that we are addressing needs that are important to you. I use motivational interviewing as well as an eclectic mix of therapeutic modalities to help my clients feel welcome and comfortable. My goal is to create an environment that encourages you to embrace vulnerability and to share openly.
