Psychotherapist
MD
I am a father, son, brother, friend, student, teacher, Black man, humanitarian, writer, public speaker, and business owner, to name a few. Mental Ascension Counseling and Consulting is a licensed mental health service office based in the Gaithersburg, MD area-here to guide you through life's complex and stressful issues. I truly care about my clients' well-being, therapeutic education, awareness of self, and all-around "mental ascension." I have worked in multiple industries including transportation, customer service, healthcare, retail, and government. This experience has garnered a plethora of introspection as well as interaction and appreciation of others. I have also utilized my time and energy to cultivate my natural curiosity about people to expand my own worldview through interactions and studies. I received my Master of Arts in Counseling from Wake Forest University and my Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland. While I treat a wide array of mental health issues, my passion lies within healing, uniting, and solidifying the Black family. Through couples, family, and adolescent counseling, I aim to improve the connection and communication of families, one at a time.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a person first and a clinician after. You are treated and seen as a person first and a client after.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Generally speaking, therapy goes at the client's rate of comfort, so the first couple of sessions are usually more about getting to know one another as well as your story leading into therapy. After the first session or two, we begin the deeper dive. However, you get out of therapy what you are willing to put into it, so the sooner comfort is established, the sooner ascension begins!

Don’t see your insurance?

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $150 for 50 minutes
Ongoing session: $150 for 50 minutes
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

I accept self-pay and CareFirst/ BlueCross Blue Shield insurances only. Payments are processed following a session. Unpaid balances will result in temporary holds on sessions until the balance is clear. While MAC does verify insurance ahead of initial session, I do encourage you to review your benefits as well to minimize surprises and keep you abreast of your eligibility for services.
