Shams Elbedeiwy, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NJ
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with adults navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, and feeling stuck despite appearing “put together” on the outside. My approach is active, collaborative, and insight-oriented—I don’t just listen, I help you connect patterns, understand yourself more deeply, and create meaningful change. My work is grounded in psychodynamic therapy, which means we explore how past experiences and relationships shape your current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I integrate this with practical tools from DBT and parts-based work so you can both understand yourself on a deeper level and feel more equipped to manage day-to-day challenges. I also consider how your background, relationships, and cultural experiences shape the way you see yourself and others. My goal is to help you feel more aware, more in control, and more connected to yourself in a way that lasts beyond the therapy room.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a collaborative and honest process. I’m not the type of therapist who just nods along—I’ll gently challenge you, ask deeper questions, and help you understand the patterns that keep showing up in your life. I integrate approaches like DBT and parts work, but I keep things practical and relatable so it actually feels useful in your day-to-day life. I also pay attention to how your background, relationships, and culture have shaped you, because that matters. My goal is to help you feel more aware, more in control, and more connected to yourself—not just during sessions, but outside of them too.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the beginning, we focus on getting to know you—what’s been going on, what feels hard, and what you’re hoping for. As we build that foundation, we start to explore patterns, emotions, and different parts of you that may be showing up. I’ll guide you in making sense of these experiences while also giving you tools to feel more grounded and in control. The process is collaborative, and we move at a pace that feels right for you.
