“I've been seeing Shams for over two years now, and when she moved to her new practice, there was no question in my mind that I'd follow her which says a lot!! She listens to understand, remembers the small things, picks up on what I'm not saying, and somehow knows when to push gently and when to just sit with me through something hard. Over these two years I've watched my mindset shift in ways I didn't think were possible when I started. She's helped me work through things I'd carried around for a long time, and she's done it without ever making me feel rushed or judged. If you're looking for a therapist who's genuinely invested in you as a person, not just another appointment on the calendar, I can't recommend her enough! ”

Getting to know Shams Elbedeiwy

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with adults navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, and feeling stuck despite appearing “put together” on the outside. My approach is active, collaborative, and insight-oriented—I don’t just listen, I help you connect patterns, understand yourself more deeply, and create meaningful change. My work is grounded in psychodynamic therapy, which means we explore how past experiences and relationships shape your current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I integrate this with practical tools from DBT and parts-based work so you can both understand yourself on a deeper level and feel more equipped to manage day-to-day challenges. I also consider how your background, relationships, and cultural experiences shape the way you see yourself and others. My goal is to help you feel more aware, more in control, and more connected to yourself in a way that lasts beyond the therapy room.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a collaborative and honest process. I’m not the type of therapist who just nods along—I’ll gently challenge you, ask deeper questions, and help you understand the patterns that keep showing up in your life. I integrate approaches like DBT and parts work, but I keep things practical and relatable so it actually feels useful in your day-to-day life. I also pay attention to how your background, relationships, and culture have shaped you, because that matters. My goal is to help you feel more aware, more in control, and more connected to yourself—not just during sessions, but outside of them too.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the beginning, we focus on getting to know you—what’s been going on, what feels hard, and what you’re hoping for. As we build that foundation, we start to explore patterns, emotions, and different parts of you that may be showing up. I’ll guide you in making sense of these experiences while also giving you tools to feel more grounded and in control. The process is collaborative, and we move at a pace that feels right for you.

I highly recommend Adam's Choice and Shams for therapy. She has been my therapist for about 2 years and the growth I've had from when we started to now has been incredible. Attending therapy can be difficult and emotional, but Shams always creates a safe space to share feelings, thoughts, or even just a regular day. As a therapist, I believe she perfectly balances allowing for expression of emotions and thoughts while also offering insight to reframe beliefs (which I personally believe is what makes her an excellent and effective therapist.) Appointments are easy to manage and attend virtually. I strongly recommend Shams and Adam's Choice to anyone seeking therapy!
Recieving therapy through this practice has changed my life for the better. Shams is a compassionate, competent and capable clinician that anyone would benefit from seeing!
Shams is hands down the best therapist I've had. She is kind, understanding, knowledgeable (in many areas for different diagnoses/needs). She creates a comfortable, judgment free therapy environment. Shams genuinely cares about her patients and helped me learn more about myself, provided a deeper understanding of my anxiety/stress/overthinking/depression, and is continuing to help me learn healthy coping mechanisms. She will not only be your therapist, but also your cheerleader who celebrates your wins, big or small.
I’ve been seeing Shams for over 2 years, and I can’t recommend her highly enough. From our very first session, she created a space that felt genuinely safe, somewhere I could bring the hardest parts of my life without fear of judgment. What sets her apart is her ability to truly hold space for whatever I’m going through. She’s fully present, deeply attuned, and knows when to gently challenge me and when to simply sit with me in difficult moments. She remembers the details of my life and connects threads across sessions in ways that have led to real breakthroughs. Over these years, I’ve grown in ways I didn’t think were possible. She’s warm, insightful, and incredibly skilled at her craft. She meets you exactly where you are while always believing in where you can go. If you’re looking for a therapist who is compassionate, consistent, and genuinely invested in your growth, look no further. I’m so grateful I found her.

Shams is always on time. She is professional but has a way f making you feel at ease. I try and change topics and distract when convo gets tough but she reels me back in. She is able to help me realize my worth and also helps me understand my feelings better. I ??% am growing because of her and her method of therapy. The time flies by but is constructive and often I get (assignments) to carry with me for the week. For me that’s necessary bc I need instruction. I recommend her highly. I was closed off person that didn’t like listening and had plenty of grief and pain to unpack and thousands of problems she helped me dramatically.
