Getting to know Shelby Cook

About Me: With a lifelong passion for mental health and a 6-year career dedicated to improving the lives of others, I founded Cook Counseling and Consulting Inc. with the vision of creating a safe and supportive space for individuals seeking to enhance their mental and emotional well-being. My Journey: My professional journey began with a Master's in Social Work from Ohio State University, fueling my dedicated focus on treating trauma, especially supporting veterans and active-duty service members. Witnessing the unique challenges these individuals face upon returning to civilian life ignited a passion within me to provide tailored, empathetic therapeutic interventions. As my commitment to the mental well-being of those who serve grew, so did my desire to comprehensively grasp the complexities surrounding burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma-issues affecting not only the military community but individuals across various professions. Recognizing the critical intersection of mental health and organizational well-being, I intentionally advanced my education. Venturing into uncharted territory, I pursued a Doctor of Healthcare Administration, driven by the aspiration to delve deeper into burnout, compassion fatigue, and the broader landscape of corporate wellness. This academic pursuit became a profound undertaking, bridging the experiences of trauma therapy with the systemic challenges impacting professionals in diverse fields. This journey has not only enhanced my clinical acumen but also equipped me with a holistic understanding of organizational dynamics that contribute to mental health struggles. Armed with this comprehensive knowledge, my mission extends beyond the therapy room-to address, prevent, and alleviate the burdens contributing to burnout and compassion fatigue.
